Postby browndog » Sat Mar 07, 2015 5:26 pm

Hi all,

New to the game and new to the Forum but just a question i have previously used SS charred bourbon Staves and have found them pretty good.
What are other good oak chip/chunks charred or not charred out there that people have tried and are very happy with?
I usually drink JD or JB so trying to replicate the same flavour as close as.
would like some help if possible please in the oak game.

If you're flavouring vodka it's hard to go past the bourbon chunks but I cant remember the brand name..... they're a fairly large chunk compared to the chips most HBS sells.

Why not pop into the welcome centre and tell us a bit about your distilling journey thus far ? it'll certainly give us a better indication of how/where you need advice :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I bought a 5kg box of american oak off cuts from Roll Out The Barrel (you actually get about 8kg), I went halves with CaptainRedBeard and still have enough to last me for the foreseeable future.

But as Mac said, without an idea of what you are making, how you are making it and what you are making it with, it is hard to give the right advice.

Welcome aboard.
