$5 a kilo from ROTB but a box of 7kg for $20 is more the reality .
Just need to figure the cutting, chopping hacking to end up with a consistent result

"ThePaterPiper"staves for $8 and has small offcuts of various sizes, but haven't spoken about price on them. Does that sound reasonable

I got shit loads of used wine barrel staves for $2 each , took some looking but its out there .

Had them run thru a band saw for thickness then jigsaw into domino lengths . Reckon Ive only got enough for about 80 to 100 years 8-}

The one's I've cut up I've done on the bench saw, if your saw is sharp you shouldn't get much fluff on them plus the toasting and charing will take care of that.

If that saw is all you can find stig, maybe try making a jig you can bolt on that is the right hight and puts some down pressure on so the piece your cutting can't bounce up and down.

I age in 4 ltr jars so my oak is in pretty big pieces, 25x25x200 long or there abouts which helps, not so fiddly.

If your in SA there is a bloke in williams town that makes barrels out of old wine barrels and he sells the off cuts for about $5 for 8kg. 1 bag lasts a long time but you do loose a bit getting them nice and square.
