Filter/Straining Help

Postby vossy » Fri Aug 30, 2019 7:23 am

Hello Legends,
Made an awesome spiced rum flavour, used grated ginger among other things problem is I can filter it properly.
I ran it through a strainer, than stocking got heaps out, but I usually do a final strain through a coffee filter, but just clogs up.
Anyone got an other ideas on something I can use?

For an intermediate you can try a cotton ball stuffed in a funnel before you try the coffee filter.

If you put it in the fridge do the solids settle to the bottom? May be able to take the clearer liquid off the top and filter that, might have a little waste tho :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

I use the fine filter out of a coffee percolator first as it can be washed when blocked

What strength is the alcohol because could contaminate with plastic. .
If put in a strainer if wait long enough will pass through as long as can not evaporate.

On recomendation from the ikea thread i got one of these
https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/oeverst-3- ... -10360233/

Bloody brilliant, not a huge capacity, but the perforated mesh filter is unique to any kitchen one ive seen, the down side to this one is the outlet is too big for most basic spirit bottles
