Trying my hand at some flavourings

First attempt at some flavouring.
Picked up some American Oak & Whisky chips which I will add to some TPW I did recently and have a few different essences to try out with and see how I go. Also got some Limoncello on the go.
I added some Berry Ice Powerade powder to the neutral for a berry vodka for the ladies. Trying out some spiced rum at the moment which needs some more time and probably some more oak. The bottle says add some sugar to taste but it's sweet enough as it is so ill skip that but is ok for now.

That was just my first dabble. Put 4 more jars on oak to add some essences to later :D

Rito, good luck! I'm trying to get more of a handle on natural flavours, personally not that keen on the flavouring style; but I am new to this hobby so am still learning EVERYTHING myself ...

Well, you won't know if you don't have a go! Right.
And it's only a mistake if you don't learn from it, so I'm still trying different things with the TPW (my wife loves that stuff!! And is pressuring me to make more! :laughing-rolling: ), but I'm doing things like Baileys and a recipe called 'Apple-Pie' (not that I got that one right yet!)...

All part of the fun!

Some seasoned hombres here use essences, either as a part to a finished product or as a single ingredient, each to their own! I've just had some outstanding Whiskies and they can do it without essences, so that's what I'm gunning for.

That sounds good!

I plan on doing a lot of learning with mixing the stuff on oak with essences and Whisky chips tomorrow until I can't taste the difference anymore :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

Did some First Reserve Scotch Whisky + Oak which tastes like shit so back to the drawing board on that one. The other two are both Still Spirits Top Shelf; Spiced Rum and I have added some nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon and some oak and tastes pretty fine and I'm sure will get better with some age & an Irish Whisky + Oak which is surprising nice.

Tasting good :handgestures-thumbupleft: well better than I thought essence would on the first go.

I have to say, though I'm not a fan of them and usually make them for someone else, while the brown spirits flavouring are usually way out the liquors are usually pretty good from the essence manufacturers. The baileys, lemoncellos, kahlua's, schnapps and the like are usually not bad. That oaking in the barrel has a lot to answer for.

Adding lots of oak from oak chips and will keep testing until I find how much I like, that's the fun part.
