So this is a direct copy .... only mostly in copper.

Yer i read that one last night after mac posted it to answer someone else's question, it was an awesome read. So are you going to run it with just the 2 plates? If so I'm guessing you will use low wine hearts, or will you attach it to steam punk 2? Either way it looks great and should work a treat :handgestures-thumbupleft:

On the tig welding, it's not that hard when you get used to it. The welders are getting pretty cheap now so wouldn't be hard to get into, most expensive part is the gas. I ran a small corse for a few blokes in town here a while ago, I'd be happy to post the booklet i made up for it, sort of a beginner's guide. If that's of intrest to you or anyone.

So are you going to run it with just the 2 plates? If so I'm guessing you will use low wine hearts, or will you attach it to steam punk 2? I just set it up to see how it looks. It is for gin so I'll have 5 plates and a neutraliser on top of that. That's why I need to go see the scrappy soon. I've run out of 4" tube. The extra tube goes between the two elbows to lower it to a convenient working height.
SP2 will be 2.6mtr high with the neutraliser.... my ceiling is 2.7 :D :D

I use whatever it takes to get the shite off, and work my way down to 0000 steel wool... someone mentioned the lacquer treatment will it stand up to the heat?

Bunnings only had the one on display... no other types, no other anything .... just the one on display.

So I said what'll you do seeing it's shop soiled.

$90 and threw in 3 x 40 Grit and 3 x 120grit.

I was dumpster diving in the scrap yard to get the elbows.. NOS. so didn't take too much notice.
At least I was close on the angle.... thought it might be 80 deg :-B

Picked up some 4" at the scrappy and a small old style keg as well.... not sure what size... maybe 35ltr.
I'm sure I'll find a use for it. :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener:

Hi Guys
Zak asked if there were any finished photos of "Jimmy".
I didn't realise that I hadn't posted any oops. :doh:

So here we go.
I decided to use the 4" 90 deg straight out the top to keep the C H closer to the still.

The problem is of course height.
I can fit 3 plates and Jimmy - but not all 5.


As an experiment I did slowish stripping runs through that set up and pulled 94 - 95%
The Carter Head acts a bit like a thumper when doing the stripping runs.
It's not a perfectly neutral spirit but close enough.

Did three of those and then a slow distilling run of 40%.

The distilling run was also were I added the botanicals.
The flavours are very nice using this method.
It also means I don't have to strip down the still.

So I start Friday night and do a stripping run, then two more Saturday.
Sunday I do the distilling run.
In a weekend using the 80ltr keg boiler, I can put through 260- 270ltrs of wash and end up with enough spirit/gin/vodka to age/drink/waste/experiment with.

I had thought of it, by running a line from the valve to the eeerr "cup warmer" on the opposite side.
Just haven't had the chance to run the still often enough in it's current configuration.
As you know distilling nearly 80ltrs of 40% produces a lot of spirit.
I've probably run it less than ten times like this.

The Missus has been scratching her head and tapping her foot... "WHY do you need so much alcohol?"
So have put SP2/Jimmy in storage for the next few months. ;-)
