Looking for info for grain mills nothing crazy expensive but I want it to handle corn as well. I have read the three roller malt munchers will do the job. Any comments on these or others?

I've been reading about this recently too. I've read that for corn, 2 rollers might work better than 3. Someone in my recent corn mashing thread recommended a roller mill for corn,but I have heard they struggle. I've bought a corona mill to try (just haven't hit a mashing day for a month or two!) - I'm just about to buy the drill socket bolt for mine, will let you know how it goes. As it's not for beer, I'm not too worried about keeping husks intact/tannin leaching.

Buy a corana mill or similar, malt munchers wont do it, been there, tried that. I'm going to use polenta or buy a corona or similar. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I have one of these,you can adjust the thing ta get the grind or crack ya want,but it will give ya arm a good work out,have done corn barley and wheat with no probs,but I only do 30-60lt grain wash's,ifn ya wanted to do bigger you may have ta power it some way, or do a bit each day or when ever ya have time in the cave.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Got one similar Hills and it grinding licorice root to a powder cost me just under a $100 at the local HBS and will last a lifetime

I actually already have a corona so i will just grab a two roller for barley.I see you can buy motors for the roller mills i reakon corn would be a bit tough for it though so will look at another power source for t he corona.

I've mucked around with and killed most types of roller mills with corn :angry-banghead:
I believe the monster mill,an American three roller mill can handle corn but after my other failures I wasn't prepared to shill out for it's expensive price.
I just went out and bought a quality blender, and by doing small amounts at a time, turns corn to flour in seconds,with no sign getting it to hot and ruining it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

With the quality blender put a barrier between you and the blender my aldi blender blade exploded and went through the jug and never found the pieces.

Well I've put about 100kgs through it so far with no problems but I do where safety glasses lol

From what I've heard the motor and gears can be handy for motorising other mills too.

If you got your hands on one of the big boys and run it through a couple of times it would probably work I guess :?

Thinking more about a motor for the corona any good guides around for choosing and setting up a motor for corn milling?

Getting the motor to turn slow enough will be your main issue unless you have a small gear box connected to it as well.

240v Power drills might be the answear. Cheaper very powerful variable speed. Just have to find a way to strap them down.. :think:

I just bought a malt muncher (arrived today) i would be a bit concerned about attaching the motor @$250, to a corona for milling corn. Not so much a $100 drill.

I burnt out a couple of corded drills using the malt muncher, first 1 didn't even make 5kg. 4 year old 18v Ryobi has done at least 400kg of grain as well as general use during renos with no dramas. I just put some tie wire around the trigger. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
