Mash tun is double wall stainless with pu foam insulation. Insulation not as thick as i thought. But can always add additional insulation. Seems well made strong handles/catchs. 60l volume. I am sure most have seen the grain mill before. Very happy hope to do some all grain stuff very soon :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Ebay item 162415252543 btw its a mash tun not a boiler.
Hang off buying for week or so. I will test it with boiling water. Main reason i went with this over plastic i want to try gelatinize corn by stepping it in boiling water. If it doesnt hold temp long enough it will be a big :handgestures-thumbdown: from me. Someone else here said they have one and it worked brilliant not sure if its same one though..

Sunday 9/07/17
Ambient temp max 18c minimum 11c

Water heated to 100c added 25l to mash tun did not pre heat it. Water drained into bucket then dumped into tun no care taken to maintain temp. Time 12.45
At some stage I will try putting water in carefully to maintain temp and see how much initial heat is lost. (doesn’t seem to be much as it stabilized at 87degrees c in mater of a minute and only lost a further 3 degrees in 1.5hrs).
Temp has dropped to about 84c in the tun loss of 3 degrees c over 1.5hrs. Added another 25l boiling water it raised temp back to 87. Time 2.15pm.( the way I added the water must really pull a lot of heat out of the water, fast)
after an hour current time 3.15pm temp 84.9c (has lost 3 degrees in 1.5hrs )same amount of heat as the first lot of water, even though the first lot would have thoroughly heated the tun before the second lot went in. So don’t really think its necessary to pre heat the mash tun.
4.15pm: temp now 83.3c (has lost 1.6 degrees c over an hour.)
5.15pm: temp 82c (has lost of 1.3c degrees over an hour.)
6.15pm: temp 80.5 (has lost of 1.5c degrees over an hour.)
7.15: temp 79(has lost 1.5 degree’s over an hour)
8.15 temp 78(has lost 1degree c over an hour)
9.15 temp 76.5(has lost 1.5 degrees c over an hour )
10.15 temp 75.5(has lost 1 degree c over an hour
*Average loss per hour 1.55 degrees c. Average taken from when full volume of water reached and stopped when I went to bed at 10.15pm.
I will now leave it till tomorrow for final temp. I reckon as it cools more it will lose even less per hour.

Mon 10/07/07
6.am temp 66.5c( has lost 9 degree over 7hrs 45mins)
8.15 temp 64c ( has lost 2.5 degrees c in 2hrs 15mins)
so malt time round 6am, 17hrs 15mins after initial water is added to boiler. Not fantastic heat retention but not bad. As far as all barley (scotch type drink) it will not have a problem maintaining heat. For gelatinization of corn I will try and get initial temp up may have to pre heat corn also maybe wrap the tun in a doona overnight.
Other thought
Tun is fairly light would be no good for a boiler with a heavy tower on top. Fittings are shit and leak will look at replacing them.
Over all am happy with my purchase and it should do what I want :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The lid actually has a seal bit like a t500 lid also has hold down catches. But the stainless is only fairly light gauge I don't reckon you would want to put a bubbler on top of it..

Even as an adult new toys are always very exciting. Good luck with the AG, once you nail your protocol and ages your stock you will never look back.
