Sight glass

Postby NotBenStiller » Fri Oct 05, 2012 10:57 am

I'm thinking of putting a 4" ferrule on the top of the keg for a fillport.
Would it be worthwhile getting a bit of glass for it - would vapour in the keg prevent seeing the water level from above?
And where would one get a 4" lens? Go down the local glass cutters and ask them to cut something up?

I've got a glass viewport on the top of my keg, it steams up during heat up but during the boil you can see in with a torch :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I think one of the handy features would be to see foam hit the window if its going to boil over and flood the column... either way it's a fill port and the glass is cheap anyway :D

G'day NBS, I've got a 2" on top of my keg for that reason also and like mulls sez, the condensation builds up on the inside but you can still make out the boil with a torch... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Reminds me of my experience with Reece.

me: "I'm after some 1/4" annealed copper pipe"
counter lady: "well you cant have that" pointing at the 1/2" coil on the table "that's for a customer" :?
me: "no I'm after some 6mm pipe"
counter lady: "I don't think they make 6mm, I think you can only get 4mm"
counter lady: "hang on I'll just check out the back"

Brings back an old kinked up uncoiled length of 4mm "your in luck" :laughing-rolling:
