Found these in Coles this weekend. They have a stainless steel lid with plastic insert for the thread and seal.
The large one holds 2 litres the smaller one holds 1.7 litres. $5.00 each.
the opening is approx 90mm diameter. Good for small batch oaking and aging.

So that's were they got too.....
Was using the same style awhile ago, got them from "Overflow" But now they don't stock them anymore.

Very useful jars.
Thanks for the heads-up.

I left a few jars with the lids unscrewed for a few months.
Went from 55% to 28% real fast...... not recommended practice :crying-blue: :handgestures-thumbdown:

24hr airing, lid on tight few chunks of oak and open from time to time to taste - works well for me.
After 6 months it's nice stuff, after 12 months even better. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just bought some of these and they don't seal properly may have something to do with the plastic seal.
They will require a rubber one made up to make it an air tight ..

Woodchip.
which ones did you get. All 5 of the 2l ones of mine with the white plastic insert are watertight. the 1.7l one with the black plastic insert has a very small drip. It has a number stamped in the plastic where it would seal on the glass, maybee sand it off.
I dont think the small amount that would escape out of that would make any difference, kegs aren't airtight either.
