Pretty chuffed with 1st attempt at soldering, not only that, it's shiny and doesn't leak.

Nice workmanship there :handgestures-thumbupleft:

How stable is it? Have you run water through it?

Yip run water through and its relatively stable. Its pretty balanced and I'll probably mount it on a piece of wood. Either that or it will be held in a clamp when it finally gets used. The reducer on the bottom has a disc hard soldered up in the portion where it gets thinner. One thought I had whilst building it was that I can get a 50mm holesaw with a narrow kerf, drill down about 3/4" into said piece of wood, then slot it in. This should give it total stability.

I have run water through it and im not too keen on the way it drips out. The angle I put on the outflow tube was mostly for aesthetics. Im wondering if I cut the angle the other way up it will drip out better.

Cheers for comments, and you're right im warmed up so am off to shed and going to solder my first flange..... any minute now!

Ok ok ok I think I might be riding the wave of: One parrot built, but............

I got home from work, and I'd been thinking about the stability issue (cheers Sam and liv) so began searching for a piece of wood I knew I had somewhere...........

And I found it! So in honour of you Aussies who've given me so much advice and inspiration! I thought I'd try to use an Australian chunk.

I think it's jarrah, could be mistaken, open to suggestions, it's on the bench with the varnish drying as we speak.......

Photo soon I'm cooking dinner.

Had a eureka moment at work today as well. I got a nice long length of 2" and last night finished the extension piece that would connect from the keg to the extension to the reflux, and it's all modular modular modular these days.......... And whilst admiring another members pot still (expect an I'm building pot still, I know nothing thread very soon) I thought I'd make a piece about 900 long that could either be the upright for the pot or a nice long extension for the reflux very simple just 900 long with an ezy flange at both ends....... Tada!

So, would be, wood identifiers, standby!!!!!!!! :greetings-waveyellow:

Here you are then, sorry but you can't really make out much of the grain, believe me though , it's as hard as nails, even my 4" makita belt sander asked me what on earth I was trying to do, and I only smoothed off the corners.

Anyway here she is in all her glory, unknockoverable.

Do you think it would be more stable in the middle? :))

Just kidding mate, that looks awesome :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm no wood expert but if that was just clear varnish don't reckon you would be far off (this is the point someone comes along to tell me i'm wrong :laughing-rolling: )
