Parrot user question

Postby Furynfear » Fri May 30, 2014 10:31 am

Hey guys. I'm building a parrot as we speak. From my understanding is that u use the parrot after u collect the for shots. And the heads will mix a bit with the hearts. Does that mean I'm going to discard more using the parrot. Is there a guide I missed on here.

You're going to have some 'smearing' between heads and hearts, and hearts and tails, even without a parrot... The parrot is only gunna hold less than 100ml of spirit, so not a big deal. Unless you're collecting your cuts in 100ml jars, you're not going to notice a difference :)

Don't forget to get a pic up when you're finished :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You could put a valve on the bottom of your parrot and drain between fractions.

I personally yet let the cores run through the parrot then discard them, the heads are going to flush it out just the hearts will flush out the remnants of the heads :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Be interested to here how you've done this in the past or how you propose it could be done.

My parrot is stainless.
I just got a guy to weld on a ss socket that I've attached a ball valve on.

What you guys think. Getting rid of the weld marks was not gonna happen so not gonna bother.

I just wrote something really long and convoluted ...then found an easy way out :D
A parrot is useful for stripping runs, to see when you are down to 20% or less.
A parrot is not a substitute for what your nose , mouth, fingers , ears and eyes can tell you.

A parrot is also useful if, like me, you're running a pot or bubbler with a vertical PC. The parrot turns my fast multiple drips out of the condenser into a twisted stream.

No, it's not an automatic cuts machine...

That twist is a neat thing to look at Zac, with my Bubbler on a spirit run I don't wanna see a twist.
On a pot still ,stripping or spirit run, your eyes can tell you things if you can read that twist.

I ran my pot for a while without the parrot, and never had a problem but having the real-time vision of how fast you're producing (withou timing each jar etc) is pretty handy.

Hey bt modified mine recently replace your 1 inch end cap with a 1 inch to 3/4 reducer and a little offcut of 3/4 then use a tap and die set to put a 1/2 inch bsp thread on it (i used cooking oil because my dad said the old thread compound was found to cause cancer) :laughing-rolling: ptfe tape and ya got a sweet ball valve drain Havent notice alot of difference probably coz i use a pot and the fractions are smeared anyway :angry-banghead:

I'm ok with the setup of a valve on a parrot thanks guys.

Perhaps my question was not as obvious to all as it is to me.
