Just missing the 3 stainless parts, clamps, seals and a length of 4" to lower it to a decent height.
Might try getting the 4" pipe from the scrapyard tomorrow.

So almost finished.

Put it together today as a mock up and to see how things fitted.

What do you think?

DSCN5326 (Copy).JPG

DSCN5328 (Copy).JPG

Of course when you trial fit things you do find unexpected problems
Like a 90 degree bend that is more like.... 80?

DSCN5334 (Copy).JPG

:laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

I have another 90 deg, so will make it up to sit properly.
Just not in the next few days,,,,, feel like crap at the moment.

So there it is gents my version of a Carter Head designed by Mac for Doc. :wtf:

On a separate note:
How do you blokes polish up your copper?
The finest I have is 120 grit flap discs and it is real rough on the copper.
Was thinking this one might be polished instead of giving it the Steampunk look.

Top stuff DBV... Did anyone else pick it early?

I'll be keeping my eye out for a stash of 3" elbows and such to do the same, I think...

No mate no one else that I know of except Mac of course.

You will need a 2 1/2" elbow and a short length of 2.5" tube as well.
That is for the turn into the glass module.
I used 2 5/8" as I had that already, part of a pot still I had started with some years ago.

The elbows are the hardest parts to source. I'm glad I grabbed three 4" 90's or I'd be spitting it about the angle of the one that failed.

This build was lots of fun and quicker than I thought.
Though it isn't over till the fat pipe bubble. 8-} 8-}

I'll do some more to it later in the week.... just got to get over whatever is making me feel crap first.

All going well I should have it finished by the end of the week.

Cheers

Hey DBV, that looks awesome even though it is on the piss a bit at the moment. :handgestures-thumbupleft: I've got no idea how it works or what it does (i may need to do some more research :)) ) but I'm sure it will do the job it's ment to. I love watching you build and you do it so quick, makes me feel a bit slooooooow :laughing-rolling: .
Mate for your polishing it all depends how polished you want it. For a mirror finish i think you'll need some real fine sand paper like all the way down to 2000 grit and a buffing wheel, there are a few threds about but can't find them at the minute. If you want a brushed sort of finish like i have i just use some 180grit them 320 then "scotch brite" i think that is its correct name, it's almost like one of those corse green scrubbers you might do the dishes with (photo below) if the copper doesn't have any deep scratches i just use the scotch brite. I also have a little belt sander i use and you can get scotch brite belts for them aswell as normal sand papper belts, it works a treat on pipe. I burnt my old one out so i bought a new one at bunnings the other day for about $70. Then i use a buffing wheel just to finish off and a coat of laquar if you want the shine to last. (The laquar is a bit controversial so best do some research and make your own mind up) hope that helps.

I may have just stuffed up the almost wordless build with a heap of words :laughing-rolling: if so, I'm sorry and one of the mods can delete it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Had no bloody Idea what you were up to with this one DBV.

Just be careful if you are going to use tools to polish.I put a condenser I had Brazed up on my mates buff and it started to indent the copper...it was too soft after the brazing.I only hand file and sand now.

Yes to scotch bright pads and also ss scrubbers are good too.Like all things they are agressive when new and good for deep scratches and later on they become good at polishing.
