Will the vinegar/cleaning run get all the oil from new copper mesh packing?,
I've already soaked it over night in a vinegar water solution but it didn't really do much.

I just soaked mine in some heads/fore shots, then did a vinegar run..... like you should do with any new copper for a still :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I don't have any fores or heads at the moment. Looks like I'll have to get some degreaser or something

whatever you do use you will still need to do a cleaning run through it, cheap degreaser, a good rinse with the hose & a cleaning run should see you right. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm probably not going to get any more of it and will be deleting it from the store, I can't supply it in pristine condition ready for use & had a few complaints, so wont bother ordering more I don't think.

Cheers.

I grabbed 5 cans of spray degreaser from super cheap at a dollar a pop, sprayed through copper mesh roll over a collection pan until there was no more yellow oil type color coming out, and the degreaser in the pan looked clean, rinsed in clean water then dunked in a bucket with water and citric acid and finished with a sacrificial alcohol run.

But highly recommend the use of degreaser that is where it starts. ;-)

I didn't take it as a complaint mate, but honestly dealing with this stuff from my end is a nightmare from sourcing good mesh to supplying it in kilo rolls it's just not viable.

The amount of oil on it is a PITA, we try to wipe most of it off when re rolling it, but unless I can source clean pre packaged quality mesh I'm not sure I should be supplying it the way it is.

The gear we're getting is perfect for what we want, but not made for our use, it's actually for air filtration which is why it comes oily.... and it's the only cost effective way of us getting it to you guys..... but.... there's the time consuming job of rolling it and packaging it that we struggle with too, and pretty soon that time constraint is going to be a huge burden on us with the massive expansion FSD is about to undertake.

I'll keep hunting for a supplier of clean quality mesh that is willing to pre package in kilo rolls, but dealing with this stuff & getting it to you is one of our worst headaches at the moment.

Cheers.

I didn't find removing the oil much of a problem. Just followed previous advice and worked well.
Degreaser
sprayed out with hose at full blast
heated in sodium percarb
washed it out, repacked
steam run for cleaning new section had to be done in any case . All done

cheers

Boiled mine in washing detergent in a bit stock pot, scooped off the oil as it rose to the top and let it cool, scooped off some more oil. Did it again next day in more washing detergent, hardly any oil came off. Next day put it in the dish washer with some new 5S T's and bubbler plates, it was smelling pretty neutral, rolled it up for my packed section, did a run with turbo shite in the still. Tadahh, clean as a wiff of triple distilled vodka.
This stuff is good value, I have bought other stuff and gram for gram what is for sale on 5SD is VALUE.

I used the degreaser then a high pressure hot water cleaner. It turned out ok for me.

Just a thought, you could probably go down the DIY carwash and use their pressure cleaner and degreaser/ soap. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :))

Yeh,

Figured it be a bit of a trip based on your posts mentioning location. Fare enough.

But on the upside no bloody traffic snarls either.

Big fan of running water cos I work for SA Water...keep brewing boys it's good for the turnover figures.

A damp

It's a shame it's so labour intensive Mac - your stuff is perfect for our caper. Just got another roll delivered today, and I'm sure it will clean up like the last lot.

Your efforts are appreciated, both with this stuff and your efforts to find something else. It makes my life (for one) heaps easier, because I wouldn't know where to start to find copper like this.

Thanks :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just soaked mine in a tub degreaser for a few hours and rinsed off with the hose bit by bit and now it's soaking in sodium per carbonate :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Looks like the degreaser has worked pretty well
