Who's broken a hydrometer thermometer or alcometer

Postby jord4231 » Tue Nov 18, 2014 7:24 pm

I've always been super carful of my distilling measuring tools my alcohol density meter is my original at least 6 or 7 years old and I've never broken a hydrometer (although I did once break a thermometer) Talking to a friend of mine today who has broken so many its not funny, I thought really I could make a holder for my shed wall in a few minuets with scrap wood!

Simple idea basic but hydrometers are off the bench on the wall now :)

I reckon the answer will be "just about everyone" :laughing-rolling:

I have broken a fair few over the years, haven't broke one for a fair while now thought ;-)

But now that I have said that I will smash one tomorrow :))

Knowing my luck the cat will break in to the shed and think I don't like that new hydrometer holder you made SWIPE smash :))

Touch wood so far I am on my first hydrometer despite giving it a fair workout by using it as a stirring stick when I am too lazy to find my real stirrer.

Alchometers are not such good survivors, I must have broken at least one every 12 to 18 months. They keep trying to jump off benches or fall heavily into empty glass bottles.

My solution last time was to buy in bulk. By making sure you always have at least one spare on hand you are guaranteed to never break another so that you never actually need the spare.

I always try to have two on hand, it's also good to be able to cross check your readings every now and again :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I was going to say if this thread was called 'Who HASN'T broken an alcometer/hydrometer?', that it would an empty thread!

But then DBV comes in with a rare case. You must have a delicate touch DBV :teasing-neener:
