Hey guys after being advised it was no good to store my spirits in plastic I set out to change everything in my line to stainless.

So today after not taking any spirit from my keg for a few weeks I found that when I took a pour (from my installed "stainless" spigot) It came out a little brown at first few mills.

So I took of the top and there we go rust. There is a bout 30+L of spirit in there and the rust has fallen to the bottom of the keg naturally, The spigot is installed a fair bit higher than the bottom
I have some filter wool in the end of the spigot just to filter out anything that comes out (I have replaced that wool just now it was brownish) Is this spirit still safe to drink or have I just lost 30L + of spirit :( I can only assume it would be Ok I mean we drink out of rusty old water tanks while camping... attached photo x_x note the spirit is clear its just the flash and the rust on the bottom that makes it look yellow

No don't drink it send it to me for evaluation :shifty:

Yeh the stainless steal nut on the end of the threaded "stainless" pipe I got from keg king :( really sucks only a couple of months old I guess when the keg runs out ill change the nut

given that most water tanks have rust in, i would be relativity confident...

i AM of course no expert... (hmmm caps'd the wrong word there)

but i did grow up... (and survive to this ripe old and cranky age) on rusty water. when you consider some of the nasty stuff that in in big city water around the world ( anyone tasted London?) a wee bit o rust is prolly ok. ( LA was awful too)

i assume you have a plan to fix the issue upon the next refill? maybe an actual 'stainless' nut?

bear in mind i HAVE been drinking! ( hah! caps'd the right word that time!)

I would be storing in another container until you solve the rust issue, it may impart a taste into your product. :think:

Just fixed the issue now wasn't actually what I thought it was sorry keg king!
It was a shitty washer that caused the problem removed it drained it in to every stainless pot and pan in the kitchen
Just chucking out the last 1L of dregs :)

And just running the rest very fast through some filter wool although the rest is clear Just to be sure

Just me but i wouldn't be drinking anything that looks like that.

That yucky one got chucked that was only the last 1L where all the rusty crud was at the end

I would rerun the lot at the very least. Wouldn't drink any of it even if it's clear

while it wont have any adverse health effects, it might not taste the best. i would do as urrazeb suggests and re-run the lot

that spirit is Really orange...

Looks like a galvanic reaction. When doing my trade I was taught about how toxic it can be, but somehow we managed to survive drinking from the old type galv pipes.

Not sure what its made of I ended up re running it all to be sure :)
