Ordinarily I would just buy a seal from FSD however I need one that is flat on both sides as it will be sealing between two non triclamp surfaces and I am concerned the ridge on the ready made seal will not compress properly and may leak. Happy to be told I'm being an idiot on this though as I do tend to over-think things...

No they're a standard silicone tri clamp seal, you can however easily shave the ridges off with a sharp stanley knife to make a flat seal from them.

Mac.

Never thought of shaving the ridge off a custom seal. Thanks Mac.

Thanks mac, got a few of these today with my tri clamp :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I shaved them off closely with a sharp kitchen knife and finished them off with some sand paper, not coarse, a high grit sand paper. one side is near perfect and the other is nearly there, just a small bump.

Im wondering how pedantic do i need to be to use them with 2 of my 1/4" ring flanges. should i keep going till both sides are smooth, or will the pressure of the clamp on the seals squeeze it in enough that it doesnt matter?

Might as well ask now as i will do more down the track like this

Cheers

I have one of them can openers that cuts the lid off from the side leaving a knife like edge, I used that as a press turn and cut and it worked well. You had to go slow as your turning and you need another cut can for the inner hole, oh ya I was cutting a red baking sheet.

those do and silicone do. i use epdm and silicon seals that i have cut flat and sanded. not the quickest way to get them but i trust the silicone mac sels and EPDM over something i would buy more.

:text-+1: Yes they certainly do, and for the price I don't know for the life of me why people want to make there own from material that you have know idea of the composition.

If I need a gasket I know where to go. ;-)
