I do this wash thru the bubbler with 5 plates, ATM wifey prefers it over TPW.
Its good, IMHO its got a softer taste

:text-+1: Also, is it best to strip the wash first? Or is that limiting the taste carrying over into the vodka?

Yep do a stripping run first nice and quick then when you got enough for a spirits run do it nice and slow. I just finished off doing 4 gens of weetbix/cornflakes and the taste well a few mates down the pub reckon they'd drink it before buying the commercial stuff at the bar and this did include the publican. Once I get a few more gens of the UJSM done I'll be doing another weetbix generation run and use that bucket of bran I have here. Put some on toasted oak and leave for a few weeks and I reckon you'll be wrapped with the taste.

Cheers Bryan ..so guessing you use a pot still .

and regarding the gens ,...never done a UJ but guessing you use backset from the strip ..??? ....how much ??? and do you reuse the yeast bed ...???...If so ...whats the procedure.

I'm guessing that there will be quite a pile of sludge when I rack all the goodness into the fermenter ,so if doing a generation thing , do I just start from scratch and just add backset or reuse the lees ?? ....Is there a point when the lees needs to be purged of all the sludge

I love it.
I put it through four plates and a packed section. Tastes better than the TPW that was put through the same configuration and through the nixon stone.

I used 280 grams 1/4 aldi box 18 weetbix works ok .Next wash going to throw in without crushing and see if works .weetbix have a small amount of fat fermenter feels a bit greasy when cleaning out .weetbix is easier then TPW to clean does not stick to side of fermenter .

I've been buying the 1.2kg box and using half in a 40lt wash.

Sorry Muppet but I could find nothing to do with Gens on the first post here .

UJ talks about scooping spent corn off top ...I'm imagining it floats ...then replace with new corn ...

However relating to Weetbix bran ,I am Imagining it all sinks to the bottom ....so there is nothing spent as such floating on top to scoop off ...hence the question

I scoop about 1/8th of the sediment out and replace with new, I guess I read that elsewhere... My bad mate. I'm finding the backset helps with extra flavor for a whiskey style spirit. For a weetbix neutral I leave the backset out. That's how I've been doing this.

As I have two fermenters I will turn one into Vodka in the VM ...but the second one ,I will have a play with Generations and run it through the pot still .

What oak do you use Muppet

The super lefort American oak staves, I'm using them as is, just toasted. I was worried it was quite neutral when young but with a few weeks oaking I'm really starting to enjoy it.

Can someone please give me an idea on the quantities for a 160lt WB/AB wash?
Is it just as simple as multiplying the original recipe??

Thanks Mac. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Was wondering if it was just simple multiplication or more like a large TPW.

So that would make it roughly:

35kg sugar
Approx 21cups crushed weet bix
Approx 21cups all bran
Approx 11teaspoons epsom salts
Approx 525g of bakers yeast
Approx 7 teaspoons citric acid (or juice of a lemon)
147 litres of water

Will I need that much yeast??
