:laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: we've "High-5'd" our faces the other day - cleaning the bubbler and stuff on a regular basis but have never cleaned the boiler other than hosing it out... I've noticed a kind of burnt flavour in our latest products which led me on boiler cleaning journey - Costic soda (nasty stuff) followed by vinegar wash followed by a comprehensive hose out when I noticed, right up top in the hardest place to reach, this layer of scum.Greasy like scum!

So we've gotten a family member with thin arms in to clean it out... didn't smell like butter, tho!

When we used the butter, there was a hint of a buttery smell but I couldn't taste it...

I will get brave and try it one day. If nothing else just to set my mind at rest Just got turned off after i made a whiskey that tasted like garden hose from water from a "no taste" drinking water hose and a rum that tastes like bran oil from an antifoam attempt with rice bran oil... Stuff i bought is silicone based.. you would need real skinny arms to get into my boiler still has standard 2" keg fitting :D

Silicon antifoam is the bomb. I fill my boilers to about 85% capacity with no problems. Butter and oil never worked for me.

I had my first spew from a rum today. Interestingly it was the third 50L batch out of my 200L fermenter. Dropping the power to 50 percent fixed it.

Hey guys whats the rules around running this twice. Anyone ran through a detuned boka once and aged? Cheers

No rules but strong guidlines. If in pot mode you should distill twice and do cuts...

Through a pot you will struggle to get the abv you want with a single pass. Nearly all commercial spirits are distilled twice.

Came out low off my boka. 70% starting abv. Second run with it just in the process of taming her

Is that single run? And is it unpaked? Double run on an unpacked pot still it starts about 82%. After cuts before watering down i normally get 75%..

Hey Legends,
So I have 2 x 25l fermenters, on 4th generation for both. Have been away for a few weeks and ran them both this morning. Ph was about 3.2 on both
First one produced about 400ml of cloudy and thats it as it was at 96 deg after that.
Second one puked, first time ever, I removed about 8L from boiler and ran again, same result.
So what now?
A. Do I let them cool through them back in on the dunder adjust Ph and hope they ferment?
B. Add hot slops to new molasses and sugar and add back
C. Discard everything and start again??

Cheers

Cloudy one sounds stuck. One that puked may be finished but did you try running the one that's puking slower? I find my rum normally finish's at 1.02 on the hydrometer even though its not an accurate reading its a pretty good indication to me that its finished.. Sorry just saw your refluxing it can't help with that sorry..

So the same thing happened with the second one bout 500ml cloudy then off at 96 deg.
Nope not refluxing, I just remove packing and no cooling on the reflux...my crappy version of stripping mode, worked so far.
Haven't checked SG yet.
But what is the way ahead from here

Could be ph problem i have never recoverd a wash after heating it. But if fresh yeast is added cant see it being a problem. You reakon its tails cloudy or puke cloudy....http://aussiedistiller.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=11307

I reckon tails cloudy as the first one didn't puke.
I am going to let it cool, add it back, adjust PH if no activity by tomorrow, add some yeast and see how that goes, nothing really to loose.

You’ll need to add new yeast, the original was cooked - 96*C...
