Put this down yesterday. Similar anyway.
8kg sugar
2kg lager liquid malt extract. I think this is the same as a beer kit without the hops.
2kg pilsener malt. Spun around in the processor till half was cracked and the other half was fines
Made up to 50l and threw on some bakers yeast.
Went out to the games room at 5 this mornin to check it and it was "what's that fuckin smell"
Looked under the lid and it's bubblin and smells beautiful. WTF
Then i look around and Gary the gingernuts fkn cat has dropped a turd in the corner. C**t. He's long gone so I can't kick his arse.
Nevermind, sleepin out in the cold tonight cat.

Beer o'clock

Edit- Was just down the brew shop and saw the Caramalt stuff on the shelf. But when i asked him last week he gave me a vague look. Dopey fkr. Us against them... :violence-smack:

MacStill wrote:Here's a pretty simple recipe some members know I've been working on for quite some time, and after aging for 3 months it has turned out so nice it's definitely worth doing if you like to get away from the typical BKO or UJ taste, even if it is a little expensive.

This works fantastic as a single generation, I didnt bother doing follow up gens with backset and this gear tastes awesome pretty much straight from the still watered to drinking ABV, however on oak for a couple of months the sweetness, aroma and flavour is delish!! everyone who's tasted it has gone wow!!

For a 27 litre wash.

4 kg of sugar
1kg Ale or Pilsner malt
1 tin of caramalt liquid extract
20 grams bakers yeast is what I used
Small pinch epsom salts (may not really be required)

So basically just like any other wash you put down you can invert the sugar in boiling water with a tea spoon of citric acid, or not. I just melt the sugar in 10 litres of hot tap water and add to the grain bed, then stir in the LME, top up to 27 litres....

Pitch yeast once fermenter is below 30c

Put lid on and wait.

Once done I run it through a bubbler, if you use a pot still you might want to run very slowly or do the strip & spirit run. I dont pot still so ner!

That's pretty much it, a little more expensive than your typical wash, but oh man is it worth it.

The little we have aged is very closely guarded by Mrs Mac, she gets very edgy when I pull the shot glasses out for for the very lucky few we've shared this with.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Mac.
Any chance of a sample of throwing in a sample with the new still

I'm going to put this recipe down on the weekend (50litre wash) strip it, add backset. Then strip 2nd gen and spirit run the lot.
It may cost a little more but it still costs SFA. Sounds like a real nice recipe with the caramalt.

Put this down on the fifth and it's finished now. Fermenters been a little cool. Surprised at the strong flavour. I was expectin a grainy beer taste but if i was to keg and carbonate this it'd blow your head off. May just be the alc content givin it part of the taste. Gonna run it tomorrow or the next so i'll keep yaz posted

Anyone got a FG reading for this ? (on 4kg of sugar)
Had the heater belt on mine and it bubble like mad for 3-4 days then went quiet.
Took a gravity reading and it is at 1030 and still tasted a little sweet.

Yep not looking to run it yet.
I put some bi-carb in and ph buffer(sodium citrate) and thats
bumped the yeast activity along.

Put fifty litres of this thru the bubbler. Got about six litres of seventy percent. In one demi i put a toasted domino and a charred toasted domino. See how it looks in a couple of months. Off the still it shows definite potential. Malty flavour comin thru.
Puttin another down tomorrow. This time its
1 can of caramalt amber
1 can of caramalt lager
2 kilo pilsener malt
Sugar

Fuckers only had one can of amber so i'll be crossin over to the dark side little by little
