Scotch like recepie

Postby ed9362 » Sun May 21, 2017 5:35 pm

Hi guys,

I have been thinking about doing a scotch like recepie for a while and i have some holidays coming up so i thought i would put one down. I am thinking about doing a modified mac whiskey type wash. Recepie for a 100L wash is below.

4 X 1.5KG cooper light malt extract cans
4 KG peated malt
16KG white sugar
Couple of pinches of epsom salts
40GMS bakers yeast

Any thoughts as to how this would turn out?

ed what whisky do you like?
I'd go for 8 - 12kg heavily peated malt. No extract.

I would ease up on the sugar, less sugar=more grain flavour coming through. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

to be honest im not real fussy with whiskey, i like it all.

it probably would work out cheaper to use no extract so i might just use the grain, maybe 10 KG.

i picked 16 KG of sugar because mac whiskey use 4KG for a 25 litre wash, if im not going to be using extract, im guessing that will reduce the sugar anyways

thanks for the input guys.

this will be my fist recepie i haven't just lifted from this site

I would ease up on the sugar a tad, the coopers malt has fermentable sugars in it as well so i would go 10 kg raw sugar.

Add some DAP (about a teaspoon) to help the yeasties out. I reckon 40gm's is a bit light on - I'd use at least 80...

If you want to keep it simple, look at a DWWG. Easy sugarhead that gives a decent scotch like mixer.

If going to do a malt scotch wash if you get an infection in a big wash gets expensive may be better to split the washes into smaller.
