Dry hopped vodka

Postby peter01010101 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 5:49 pm

Just saw a post on Facebook advertising a Citra dry hopped vodka.
I imagine this would involve steeping hops in neutral spirit, just like dry hopping beer. Unlike dry hopping beer I wouldn't think you would leave the hops on the spirit for days. Has anyone tried this? I was planning on having a go tomorrow starting with 15g of Citra hops in 1L and check every 10 minutes or so. As you can see in the pic, the colour is very light - not green as i would have expected. Any suggestions?

All grain beer brewing setup.

Interesting concept :-B

I would imagine you would want to use absolute minimal amount of hops. Have you ever eaten a hop pellet on its own? :puke-huge:

I will leave my hops for beer personally :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I made something similar a few weeks ago, but ran a neutral through a Carter Head with botanical basket of hops. Mate of mine, who is a brewer loved it. I hated it though and will stick to hops in beer!

Cant see why not using some fresh (or dried) hop flowers. I'd watch it VERY closely though. Tasting regularly to get just a light hop flavour. I personally love the smell of fresh hops but the taste leaves a lot to be desired.

Wonder how this would taste in a whiskey?

Studies suggest that hops may help improve sleep quality..
