AG suggestions WA

Postby Westshine » Thu Mar 07, 2019 4:58 pm

I'm looking for suggestions on a mash bill from those who have done a few AG washes. I appreciate taste is subjective, however I'm not at the stage of being fussy about the end drop. I need to work out where to buy appropriate distilling grains, right quantities and any tips on oaking first.

I'm a big fan of bourbon but I don't have anything to gelatinise the corn with so will stick with non-corn based AG mixes. Has to be available from a WA supplier, south side if possible.

I've got a 100ltr boiler, 190ltr fermenters and a new wank done (whiskey dome) to trial.

Thanks in advanced!

I quit like single grain "Barrett burston ale" whiskey.
An esky or drink cooler full of boiling water will gelatinise corn if ground up finer.

I make 25L washes (using HERMS to mash) from 4kg Coopers Pale and 4.55kg Weyerman Rye Malt. Also recently imported some (I bought 1 kilo) Safspirit USW-6 yeast to try on my next wash.

I made a trip to the local HBS yesterday. Only small bags of very expensive grains available, I guess that's a beginner mistake.
Any suggestions where to purchase malted grain south of Perth would be a big help?

There’s a whole post on WA suppliers, but for the life of me I can not find them.

Do a Google search for malted grain - Jandacot is 2 or 3 of them...
