Got it from brew craft in joondalup for bout 99 bucks. Never used one before that photo but it's just like a mincer to use. The screw on the front adjusts the amount the machine grinds. Just adjusted it 'on the fly' till corn came out like chook feed.

Not strong enough, think I striped a few gears in the motor.

Wont tell wife.... :))

Was looking up the coffee grinder attachments for mincers and wondering how well they would work? Might need some modification but. Mmmmm modification.

Oh and when you use the grinder, make sure it's firmly clamped to the table/bench your using, and where possible don't let your missus close to it! I got lazy and let the missus help. The base slightly turned while she cranked the handle, she panicked and grabbed for the hopper that is on a bayonet type lock, managed to twist it, popping it off, sending corn flying all over the show!

Two screws in the base will make all the difference!

looks like a mill commonly known as a "carona" or "porket" to me. great for corn, not so good for barley - but plenty of brewers start with them - often see em cheap on aussiehomebrewer when someone upgrades

Really want one of those old farm sunshine ones but they go a bit dear , bloody annoying when I thing of all the clearing sales I went to with the old uncle and could have bought them by the dozen for a dollar

Hey Bt1. Was looking the recipe on the link you gave on this thread for your liquid malt grain bill. Is that for a 30ltr wash or larger?
Love to give it a go and do a few generations of it.

Cheers

Sry bloke,

missed this question...

here the link

Frank has a few on the same as well this looks to be one of the better recipes I've done it's fairly young but wow does it smell good. Grumps powder malt could be a real cost saver waiting on some feed back on that one...

cheers

Corn mash

Cheers mate.

Stilled off the mash the other day and it started out smelling ok, pulling 65 abv after taking off the heads. By the time I got down to around 30 abv it was smelling real pungent. Like cornbread with a slight sour smell but strong!

Is this normal?

Is there any reason why my attempt at a mostly corn whiskey tastes like rum?

My recipe basically consisted of:
- 1 part rye
- 1.5 part malted barley
- 4 parts corn

It tasted like rum out of the still. Then Iv had it in a 10L American oak barrel (medium charred) for 3 months and it still tastes like rum. Wondering if Im wasting my time with it and mayb empty the barrel and try again.

what did you have in the barrel before?

Also maybe the rye could have something to do with it?
