tomato paste is in a jar or can and is concentrated tomatoes (not much else) and is used for cooking

tomato sauce / ketchup is bolted stuff for hot dogs etc
it often has preservatives and other stuff that you dont want

i upgraded a fermenter and did

11kg sugar in 70L
300g tomato paste
1tsp citirc
pinch of epsom salt
1/3 tub lowans bread yeast

SG about 1060 = 9.2% (hopefully if .990)
chucked the aquarium heater in it and wrapped it up

it's kicked off after about 3hrs and bubbling nice :)

I ran birdwatcher's through my SS super reflux still about 3 weeks ago and the vodka it produced was a big hit with my vodka-drinking buddies. Took about 2 weeks to ferment out, then ran a stripping run (with reflux condenser converted to pot still) and then spirit run. Will def do it again.

my TPW is running slow or maybe i am getting impatient it's sitting on 1010 and it's day 8....

the last few i have done have been slow, i notice my bakers yeast is past it's best before date but doubt that's the issue
not sure if it's the wash or just me thinking about it

gonna get some of Punkins yeast to try on some brews...

Probably temp related. Yeast will be fine if it's been stored in the fridge, unfortunately most supermarkets don't do that

I put down another TPW last night and rehydrated my yeast with'
500ml warm water (35degC)
80gm lowans yeast
1 tspn white sugar
While I was stiring the sugar in I noticed my 1L jug about to bubble over, so I put it into another 2L jug and by the time I was about to pitch the yeast that jug was almost over too.
Pitched the yeast, screwed the lid on and less then a minute later it was bubbling like a "turbo" and its still going like crazy. Be good to see how fast it ferments out.

The TPW I put on yesterday took off within 5 minutes of pitching.

4.5kgs of sugar (last of my sugar supply)
juice of 1 lemon
topped up to 25L of water @34-36*C
80g Lowans yeast

Aerated it like buggery and stirred up the yeasties good. It's been 36 hours and it's still glooping along. I put my spirits wash fermenters in an insulated cooler bag with a towel over the top of them to keep them warm. My beers go into a temp-controlled fermentation fridge.

The TPW I put on last night (9kg sugar, 375g tomato paste, 1/2tsp citric acid, 45L total volume) is fizzing away nicely, and generating plenty if heat! Pitched yeast at 30 degrees, wrapped the fermenter in a furniture blanket with a thick bit of foam rubber underneath to insulate it from the bare concrete floor, 24hrs later and its 34 degrees!

34 degrees seems a bit high.

34c is fine for a TPW.....the bloke who designed that wash "Birdwatcher"....recommends fermenting @ 30-35c In my experience lower wont hurt it....and wouldn't be surprised if it can handle a bit higher than 35 if it had to.

Yeah I figured I'll just let it go the way it wants, if I try to interfere with these sort of things I usually end up fucking them up :text-lol:

I usually kick mine off at around 28 to allow for the few degrees they can pick up when you have them well wrapped.....or dont bother to wrap until day two or three.
