Just put on 75 l of this, big fan of ng as a cereal smell fantastic i blended the nutigrain with a stick blender after adding to water/sugar smell was almost like peanut paste. Usually start small with new reciepe but so far every recipe i have tried has been so far above expectation that i decided to go with 3 batchs at once.

Hope the recipe scales linearly because i just doubled it in one fermenter than normal in another...
Cant wait to try it 8-} :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Recipes will scale linear apart from yeast, you can get away with less :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Happy Easter to all!!

Just completed my NG spirit run and was wondering which oak folks were using for this recipe?

American or French?

Cheers

The experiment I am currently doing is this:

2 Large boxes of Nutrigrain
5 Kg Raw sugar
25 L water
Lowan's yeast
Run it thru the bubbler
Age on Oak

I will report back and let you all know how it turns out :handgestures-thumbupleft:

About to head to the supermarket do you reckon 2 or 1 big boxes in a 23l ferment?, a big box here is 500grams.

Hey Kiwi, when you say you single Potstilled the first one, do you mean you just did the strip-run then put it on oak?

Aging a strip run will produce, at best, very average drink!

Given his advanced experience, I'd suggest he meant a proper single run thru either, a pot still or a bubbler; that is taking cuts!

Stripping usually cleans the alcohol from the boiler wash. The spirit run cleans up and separates the different alcohols and grades of alcohol!

Kimbo originally did a single pot run to get an idea of how it was going to taste without going to the effort and cost of a handful of strips followed by a spirit run.

Once he established that it was a good thing, and he had a bubbler, he started doing single runs through the bubbler like you would with any whiskey :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I did a couple of nutrigrain washes through my pot, 4 or 5 generations and a spirit run, and it is a very good spirit.

G'day guys.

I'm giving this recipe a whirl at the moment and worked out I messed up the quantity on the first batch

I have 50L of wash, used 10kg of raw sugar but only used two 805g boxes of Nutrigrain.

I'll strip it out and follow the recipe for the next two generations but do you think it will make much difference to the overall end product?

I have a Pure Distilling reflux still that seems to go alright for TPW batches so hoping it'll be ok for this as it's all I have..

You'll want to run your nutrigrain wash through a pot still to retain the flavour mate.

For what its worth, I only used one 805g box for ~20 litre wash with 5 kg of white sugar. I racked 16 odd litres into a bucket, cleaned the fermenter and poured the 16 litres back in and sealed it as I knew I wasn't going to be able to run it through the still for another week. It sat on the bench for a week and when I ran it got 700ml at ~62% through the air still that turned into a litre @~45% It was noticeably more flavoursome and aromatic before bottling with bourbon barrel woodchips in the bottle for 10 days.
The best bit is this batch has got way better flavour than the previous batches which were already pretty damn good. Needless to say the next batch will be sitting on the bench for a week after racking and see if I get the same result. A bit like brewing beer, maybe sometimes you just get lucky, but worth trying to repeat these things and share it.

Hi,
Try Woolworths or Coles in the washing detergent section. Product is called Lectric Washing Soda - about $4 for 1 KG

Well that sucks as I don't have one.
Is it worth my while continuing with the second and third generation then, or should i just treat it like a TPW and just run it?
