Ok, thanks Rum. I've just reset the wash and will take sg now so if the problem continues I'll have some data. As an aside, has anyone designed software for recording the bits 'n pieces of our hobby?

Is it possible you didnt add enough sugar?

I just keep my notes handwritten in an old ledger book.

Can't quite remember the original recipe but am I supposed to have a dead fly floating on the top of my wash?
Checked the SG yesterday and forgot to close the lid properly, :angry-banghead: it has finished to 990 and I know it's going to be double distilled, eliminating any unwanted guests, but still.. :puke-huge:
Down the drain or not?

It'll be fine. Remove fly and run it.
Cheers

lol. Nah you can double distill the fly guts away. I'm sure of it. ;) Gift to the stepmother or something.

But seriously there is a lot of the same crap in yeast too and besides the potential for the bacteria the fly had on it affecting your brew it is probably salvageable, especially if you double distill and filter/baking soda rest the stripping run. How long was the total ferment?

Doesn't smell like fly, doesn't taste like fly but I'm sure if you drink enough you'll get a good buzz.... :laughing-rolling:

Well I guess it depends on when the fly got in. If the fly only got in when you already had a high ethanol content it's unlikely to have had any bacterial impact. So it's been 12 days of fermenting? If the fly got in there on day 1 you may have less hearts, and I'm guessing it doesn't smell like vinegar so you should be all good.

If we can make a turbo wash drinkable I don't think some fly is that big a problem in the scheme of things.

Even if it did somehow effect the wash bacterially it will be killed by the distilling process, reckon there has been worse things in a wash before ;-)

You could put it in the bottom of a bottle, just like the tequila bottles with the worm :laughing-rolling:

just put 4x25L of this down last week smells promising,no need to crush up the nutrigrain either just put in 10L hot water add your sugar and mix it in and then add the nutrigrain.
Let it sitt for an hour till sogging and stick your stiring spoon into a drill and mix it all up works great

Kimbo describes this as a light Irish whiskey if anything, it's at the start of the thread somewhere I remember.

Yes I was waiting for someone to jump on it :))

Very possible that a lot of scotch produced for the blending market will have corn in it as there is nothing to say the extend of other grains used....but

As most people would associate scotch with would be a single malt which will have zero corn in it ;-)

And yes Jamesons would be irish and backwards anyway :))
