thanks for the help

If you ran good cuts and were planning a very long barrel time to take out the nasties/harshness, you could and no doubt there is a commercial product or five like that out there, but there would be plenty of "better" recipes to commit time and a barrel to at hobby level

Never tried this one guys to the experts is she a bit of a slow fermentor? Opened my tub up today again still not alot of activity. Bubbling slowly maybe I just been making to much rum and expecting an explosion of activity. To the guys who control their fermontor temps what you use for this wash I got it sitting at 30 degrees. Cheers fellas

I found all my washes of this, 6 so far, have been very slow mate.
My BWKo fermented in 4 or 5 days but this one takes almost 3 weeks so I would call it slow

My BWKO is like that Southern and they both are in the same cabinet with the same heater belts plugged into the same temp controller and both running at 30 - 32 degrees.
I thought it was just the sugar in the nutri grain taking longer to be released so it could be converted by the yeast. You just blew that theory out the window lol

^ Did you break up your Nutri Grain? I put mine in a big pot with hot water to soften and then hit it with the mixer before adding the slush to the fermenter. Maybe that helped to get it fermenting faster.

I blitzed it all in a food processor so it was well broken up before added. The first lot I did not do that but used a stick blender in the fermenter. It did not seem to make any difference

I’ve done it so many ways and honestly you don’t need to break them up. If you do want to the easiest way I’ve found is dump them in whole then come back the next day with a stick blender, mine has a potato masher attachment (which we don’t use for potatoes) and I added a piece of 100 pvc pipe to it to capture the nutrigrain nicely.
The potato masher makes easy work of the softened bits

A stick mixer is a "must have" I reckon. :happy-partydance:

So how long does it take for your NGW to ferment doubleuj & Stig?

1 week or 3 and do you guys have any explanation for the difference in brew times.

I personally think that God was just getting me ready to do all grain ferments lol

In summer , maybe 10 days to 2 weeks but in winter it can take 3 or 4 weeks
That’s using the Gold Yeast

I got 5 generations of this stripped down to 40%. About 25 Litres all up. How slow do you guys run this on a spirit run?

Cheers

For me, with a 40L ish charge with a pot still, 1-1.5l/h for heads n then open it up to 2-2.5l/h, its a balance between how much you loose to cuts by running fast and running too slow, leaving flavour behind (and taking foorrreevvvveeerrrrr). Once tails have positively started it just gets cranked up and goes into a feints jar. With a 25l charge size i would go to the lower end of those numbers to get better separation

This stuff is still fementing from the 2nd of December :eusa-violin: :handgestures-thumbdown: Never really got going hard so definately slower side. Its still bubbling at the surface not fully but enough to know its not finished. I really wanted to run this before Christmas ~x( I know nutrigrain should be enough nutrient but does anyone add anything to help it along that nutrigrain might lack? I dont want to be fermenting gen 2 in Feb 2021 was going to add a touch of TP just to be sure next wash :laughing-rolling:

I followed these directions. After cuts I ended up with just over 4 litres of product at 83%. I have diluted that done in 3 batches at 2 litres a batch each with a different abv and different oak combinations. I had a further 750mls that I proofed down to 40% and blended with some oaked NGW that I had double distilled through an airstill. Added a few ml of SS peat smoke and its made a damn fine sippin whiskey. Thanks to all for their advice.
