Sounds about right :laughing-rolling: I would say then piss in the bottle, but I digress.

How about research the grain bill, the methods that differ it from the normal Wild Turkey in distillation, how it's aged...?

Barley, rye and 51% corn it says on the website For regular wild turkey then I'm guessing the rare breed is aged longer in different barrels.

Maybe
25 % barley
24% rye
51% corn

I've heard they age it at drinking strength.

This requires more barrels, and more cost, thats why its dearer than the other brands, or so they would have you believe.
I think they shove a whole frozen turkey in the barrel as well.

Wild turkeys are long and thin, unlike the domestic counterpart.

I dunno, maybe they've got big bung holes at the gobble gobble factory.

Hill, sorry to stray a little off topic there... so I'll try bring it back to your original question.

How about you give me $80 and I get Zak to piss in the first bottle of your UJ stripping run ? reckon you'd just about have the perfect Rare Breed clone then :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You blokes go a bit far with the pisstake.
I think the original grain bill mentioned would make an excellent rare breed copy.
Then ring yr local turkey breeder. Buy a bucket of genuine turkey shit, chuck it in yr wash. Bingo
Warning- may be short on heads :teasing-neener:

Yeah, sorry, I might have steered the thread off a bit with the frozen turkey comment.
I believe they may thaw it first.

Rare Breed is a blend:
Rare Breed is what's called a 'barrel-proof bourbon', meaning it's bottled straight out of the barrel at the proof it has reached. There is no water added to lower the proof and this means its full flavour is maintained.

This bourbon is unique a blend of Wild Turkey 6-, 8- and 12 year old stocks. This special marriage gives the product a rich, exceptional flavour that's remarkably smooth, considering its high alcohol content.

If you're going to do it as a rye whiskey, the ratios are approximately 65% rye, 23% corn and 12% barley.

Either way he should be happy with it. You will probably put him off the store bought stuff :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So its a blended whiskey from unsuitable or spoilt old batches, with a real deep tails cut.

Sorry. I'll stop now.
I'm not a big fan of it in its store bought form, but a home made version would be nice.

Go for it.

Thanks guys, the guy got and is still getting me any copper I need so doing something based on the original is the least I can do.

I'm pretty sure that the end product will be far better than the original :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hah, you could say that :))

I'm with you on the idea of a home made version though. We can take much more control over how it tastes each time to get it where we want.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. You may just end up with something that not only suits your mates taste, but yours as well. So it's a win-win-win situation :handgestures-thumbupleft:

given the success of the scotch I did a few months back I have decided to put a batch of this down finally, going to just call it a rye whiskey.

looking at
65% Rye
23% corn
12% Malted barley

Will see how it all goes.
