Sloe Gins/Vodkas

Postby bt1 » Sun Aug 04, 2013 6:54 pm

Hello all,

Past few years I've never had a crack at Sloe berry based gins cos I can't source the berries. I've found a vendor in UK who will have fruit available in mid Sept.

By any small chance does anyone have a lead to a vendor for fresh fruit in Aussie?

I've exhausted near every specialist herb and importer and 15 plus emailed follow ups later no result.

btw if there are any other gin/vodka nutters interested speak now before I place my order.

There is a TV series about a bloke that went farming in Tassie after being a food critic.
its about his farm

Anyway he made gin using sloe berries that are growing on farms in Tasmania.
So there you go. See Matthew Evans of fat pig farm and the gourmet farmer

I Speak to Matthew Evans every now and then as I live not far from him and our businesses often cross paths.
If you like I can ask him next time I see him as to where he sourced his fruit if you like? I would be interested also to be honest

Howdy,

would much appreciate any assistance...

the idea of importing fruit / quarantine etc doesn't get me excited.

I have no contacts, but I'd love to get some berries if you find a supplier.

If this thread turns into a bulk buy.... :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Count me in... :-D :-D

Not sure how they would travel to Nth Qld though

I've been looking for fresh juniper berries in Australia for ages and there just isn't any I could find.
The next best thing just may be Sloe berries.

Just sayin'

Inlaws said they got theirs from Red Hill markets .

A bloke called Campbell .Business called "Botanic Arc" Copplands Rd ,Warrigal

Apparently Sloes are ready in Feb-March in Victoria .They tried fresh and frozen and reckoned the frozen were easier to deal with

G'day BT1,

The cheese and kisses loves this stuff, so much I bought a tree from www.woodbridgefruittrees.com.au in Tassie. Only supply Sept each order and I think they grow to order.

Cheers,
Fed

Found this English bottle maker awhile back.

They made a bottle for a distiller producing Sloe Gin, called Sloe Motion.
