distilling RTDs or premix

Postby kiwikeg » Sat Sep 14, 2013 4:59 pm

I have been given 12l of 9% premix bourbon and coke from a forkhoist incident.

The questoin of the day it can I redistill this stuff to get the good stuff?
the store owner was so proud giving it to me and I didn't want to offend him by refusing it.
It's flattish and been poured into old coke bottles.
I worry it will scorch but i can dilute it.
Lost cause?

Yeah I figured there's only about 1 litre of 92% in it. They are all coming with beer to watch me run it tonight after work. Forktruck drivers shouting the beer :laughing-rolling:
I think I will toss it, I have a bwko spirit run ready to go. So I can run that for entertainment instead.
Don't fancy chipping toffee out of my boiler.

Prolly not much due to the preservatives in it... but still makes an interesting experiment.
Let us know what happens :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Okay I have 2 starters going in the hot water cupboard, 1 just the rtd and some bakers yeast and the other the 50/50 rtf and water + yeast,
I will see if either fires, couldnt do a ph test as my ph kit works by color change in a sample of the liquid and the cola is too dark.

My guess is, if you have any effect at all then it the one with water will more likely have the most effect. :-B

Then try diluting that one aswell. Remember, the postmix is already at 9%, with a lot of sugar.
If you dilute it to 4.5& abv, then you will have more of a chance of fermenting the remaining sugar.
But Geez.... I thought the preservatives would have made it a PITA.

they are only starters
Orange capped one is the 50/50 mix, its ripping along but the other ones mostly dead,
Once I negotiate floor space with my significant other, I will go full size in a 20l demijohn.with heat.
