Aleo vera

Postby Andy » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:39 pm

"She made aloe vera wine for the judges at the 2008 Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Festival of Foods. She left with a gold medal. It’s made with 5 stalks of aloe vera, 2 pounds of granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of raisins, 8 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of yeast, and the juice of one orange. Peel the aloe and cut it into cubes and add it to a container with the raisins, orange, and sugar. Next, boil the water and pour over the aloe vera mixture. Then, dissolve the yeast in luke warm water and pour the yeast into the cooled aloe vera mixture. Cover and let it remain for 21 days, stirring occasionally"

Any ideas on what a Aleo Vera wash run though a pot still would taste like?

yeah, im not too sure how her wine turned out. surely the yeast would have died with about half a pound of sugar left.
but I would alter the recipe, more aleo vera to ensure the flavour gets transferred. just not sure what the flavour would b like

That's what I was pondering

I have about 10 plants at my house. Can probably find some more around. I'm undecided if I should roast them or not. I think they will become too dry and just empty shells if I roast em first

Apparently the gel inside the stalks isn't toxic but the layer just next to the gel IS toxic. So if you're gonna make some only use the gel...

Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Howdy,

why not case up proper blue agave for a decent Mezcal? Or worst case and high cost agave syrup ?

Not to be confused with the much more common american agave cos this is shite...apparently
