More than achievable in late 2015 considering,

the Oak versions and understanding needed, two or more used timber types will take at least 6 months
blending needed
getting peating right
AG washes
the 15 + test runs
ageing time

Its a fair workload to go chase these goals.. I wouldn't take them on lightly.

good luck with it all

Don't know If I'd bother trying to impress someone who wants ya to produce a $250 bottle anyway but.... Thing is this whisky is blended and some of those they blend with are very very old (40+yrs old) . Due to the blending there are a whole bunch of different grain bills, malts, yeasts, peats, age time. and oak times/methods/locations . Blended whisky's are not so much simply the skill of a given brewer or stiller but down to the skill of the blend as to what flavours and characteristics will complement each other in what doses. I short I would not accept the challenge any blended whisky, good or bad as i think it would be virtually imposable to clone without likewise making 6 or 8 completely different whiskys and then farting around to find the right amounts of each given constituent :teasing-blah: . What you can for certain do is so a single malt and some grain whiskies, age and then blend to your taste and very likely end up with a product as good or better than the high end blended whiskys

My single run, unaged cornflakes whiskey tastes better than Johnny Blue, but then I can't stand the smell of scotch, let alone the flavour.

Is Blue Label your mates standard drink? I wouldn't get too concerned about trying to please him haha

He's probably skeptical because he's only ever had turbo/essence homemade spirits... I know that this is the case with everyone around here. I'm the first person in town to ever use a pot still..

Good move aussie...

crow's comments on blending really do highlight the complexity here.

If I had to suggest what we can do best or better:
Single cask/batch
Why blend? when we can highlight the single batch variations as a positive.
Higher quality, reduced tails...a luxury they don't have on 1000 to 10,000lt batches :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Really precise washes, harnessing quality grains and specific flavours...How many commercials throw 10 - 20% specialist more expensive cara and crystal malts at a wash...not many.
Airing/ageing/timber rate/agitation/accelerated heat changes methods to achieve drinkable status in much earlier timeframes than traditional...

In fact here's a prediction from bt...with guys like Doc and many others focusing on these micro techniques years ageing for spirits will become a semi redundant issue in spirit selection over the next decade. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Reckon there will be other more objective measures to take it's place like maybe phenol counts, ethanol purity, esters measures.

Imagine this..customer: "hi I'm a tourist and new here..my drink pref is 95% purity, ester count x and phenol count under y"...

Distiller/winemaker: "Well we've got this range which suits your tastes perfectly"

It may even be driven by a legal requirement to better define contents as applies to the wider food industry

Look forward to that day!

What are your mates hobbies??

If he likes cars for example, and shows off some new commodore...the equivalent would be you saying: "What a joke, and cars are your hobby...I'll sit up and listen when you get a McLaren F1" :handgestures-thumbdown:

That's what I thought too, tell him to get stuffed next time he comes to your home, make him spend the $250 and tell him to drink the shit because he's getting none of yours :handgestures-thumbupleft:
