I have the same and the same never ending keg boiler project. Motivating my welder mate to sort it isn't easy!

Are you happy with your Liebig? I'm limited in space and tools/ knowledge so I'm still contemplating whether to build a bigger Liebig (900mm) or a shotgun. Yours obviously performs quite well knocking down a strip in 2.5 hours!

Yea but i want a shotgun going to a 4" pot once my new boiler is built. Which will eventually be my bubbler. My liebig is 1"over 3/4" 700mm cooling jacket by the way.

Dig, what seals do you use on the lids? I've got some jars but they only have the red rubber seals.

Take the seals off and put a piece of paper towel over the jar and shit the lid. You want your spirit to breathe a bit while its ageing.

I've found it cleaner & less smelly if I shut the lid :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

I use the screw on lids with a piece of paper towel inbetween and the lid loosely fitted.

Gday all.

I have around 45 litres of this ready to go. I have just finished doing cleaning run on my neutraliser so this will be he maiden voyage this weekend. My questions are - do I pack the column or not? Do I strip to collect Lo wines or just run it through once collecting cuts for high abv? Lastly how much backset and lees should I keep for next gen if I want to expand next gen to fill my100l can using my 2x 60l fermenters and how much flakes etc should I add?

Awesome site and great crowd. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers

I would have thought you'd run this without the packed section entirely; just the SGTees and RC. Or am I missing something?

Cheers,

The 7 or 8L of backseat is what you're calling lees...

DW this used to confound me as well! Look up and bookmark the Glossary - it'll help you no end.

Backset is what's left in the boiler after the run, lees is what's left in the fermenter after you siphon the wash out.

To upscale a wash, use all of the lees from your original small wash.

Yep got that Thanks Zac!

If I get a chance will run the 45l I have tonight through the bubbler and then work on the second gen In the morning once she's cooled down.

Should I use all 5 plates? I think I remember seeing/reading somewhere on here (thats what happens when you drink and read) somone saying they removed one plate and only used 4? Not sure why you'd do that?

Cheers
