If nothing don't ditch the wash, either heat it up with an aquarium heater or heat pad/belt or rehydrate some more yeast and chuck it in.
I rehydrate yeast in a 5L jug with around 1L of warm water and a teaspoon of sugar.
Just watch it though, she likes to foam up....

Ahhh she's fizzing thanks double good tip. Must just not be airtight

G'Day all
As my local is useless and if its not for turbo or in a kit for beer they don't want to hear about it. So all is send via post like many I would say. I know the grain is used for the flavor so I hope mashing it it still has the flavor. So here is my wash 2kgs of GP grain and 2kgs of caramalt grain all in a bag and mashed in 15lt water. 1kg of dried dark malt extract some citric acid, 3kgs of raw and 6 kgs of white sugar and 20g of DAP. Topped up to almost the top of a 60lt drum (i think about 70lt or so)and adjusted the temp to about 36-38 mixed with a paint stirrer and in went 60g of yeast. SG of 1060 so Im hoping this well have the same flavor or is it best to leave the grain in the wash as after mashing it I left it out. And is there enough nutrients with out the grain or is the 20g dap enough or was that a bad idea.
Cheers

Wondering with this does anyone re use the grain adding more caramalt for a second and maybe 3rd gen?
No backset or sour mash just reuse the grain bed? Seems there is enough flavour to reuse the grain bed with bwko style mixs. Thoughts appreciated.

[quote="Dig Brinker"][quote="Dig Brinker"]Sorry knackers, I'm not trying to diss you. I know there are a kardashian's buttload of threads on this site, many of which you will never need to read because you have no plans to make whatever drink or use whichever still or technique is described in said thread.

And that is fine. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

This is a science, and every wash & run will behave slightly different. There are always variables. Slight variations can cause drastic changes to your end product.

This line here I agree with Over the last couple of days I run 2 washes both put down side by side same size, same yeast , same every thing
First wash got bugger all could not get over 90 % second wash went straight to 94.5 % and i8t was like a race horse pissing :)) got twice the volume

I have run 5 gens using backset, adding liquid malt and replacing grain as needed. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So whats everyone do with their feints off this? Save up and do a feints run? Add it to your neutral feints?
Also what % do you oak this at? Would it hurt to oak it final proof 40%?

Did you check start and finish sg Vossy? And what size run?
I'm just stripping my first batch in order to run 50L spirit run tomorrow and noticed that my FG was .995 which is apparently pretty good for this wash, with all the unfermentables that are in it.

Starting running it then checked my notes and noticed I didn't get the Sg Too excited I guess. Normal 27L size. All grains sank to the bottom and fermentation completed a few days ago.

I'd say you've done well.
3.9L at and average of 57.5% is equivalent to a 27L wash at 8.3% :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Plus, to back up my math, I'm stripping 25ish L at the moment and have just hit 40% with a demi that is about 3.5-4L full
So either we've both fucked up or are both bloody legends, you decide 8-}

Hi folks

Ran my first 25 litre wash of McWhisky (standard recipe) yesterday - ferment was 6 days all up - did strip run last week and spirit run on a Boka in pot mode yesterday. The boiler was charged with 4 litres of low wines (didn't measure ABV!!) and enough water to dilute to get less than 40% ABV and cover the element.

Aired product overnight after taking 250 ml cuts and ended up with 1.5L hearts - sounds like all went to plan..............but then i decided to measure ABV so i could dilute to 65% and the ABV of my hearts collection is 47.8% (after temp correction).

What happened?? I thought I would get something in the range of 80 ish ABV??
