It's a chemical reaction. You can also use potassium carbonate at a lesser rate. There's heaps of ways to treat your low wines (called that because that's the term for em in the industry) and your finnished product. The Russians and Poles etc are right into the neutral production and some of the chemical processes they use frighten the shit outa me.

It just depends what extent you want to go to and what your definition of 'good' and 'clean' is.

You won't have to do much to beat homebrew shop vodka, just use a decent wash or make decent cuts, that's enough for a lot of people to sit back and say they're making the best in town and it'll stack up to pretty much anything on the bottlo shelf and topple anything their mates can produce.

Some others aren't happy until they produce 'snowflake' vodka that slides down without a trace of flavour or heat.

It's a personal thing. Some are happy to drink heads and tails :? :roll:

i don't have any DAP or gypsum....

so my question is... is WPOSW any better than TPW ?

i have no reason to change except for the change itself

They are all just ways to get sugar to ferment mate. I tried this one once and it failed, could be me, could be my water?

I usually just use dap and a few handfulls of whole grain for nutrients.

Good question Maheel....Ive been thinking of asking the same thing myself for some time. If there is no difference in quality or taste I cant see any reason to go through all the mucking around when Birdwatchers is so easy.

Somewhere in Wineo's thread on HD there is an addition of a multi-vitamin/ vitamin B tablet, I always add this and never have a problem with the sugar wash. It ends up being much easier than a birdwatcher.

Hey All!
I am giving wineos suger wash a go,put down a 25 litre wash and a 50 litre was yesterday.
Within 1 hour they where happily burgling along,anyone one got any opions on this wash?
I thought I would give it a go as its me first wash ever,my 50 litre wash I got a heading pad on and that keeps it at 30 Celsius,the 25 litre one I checked this morning with a heating belt was near 40 Celsius!!!!
Ii have since moved the belt up to try and drop the temp,but I am running these at night at moment cause is awfully cold,hope all goes well :D

I found this wash not quite as smooth as the All Bran Wash. Also, it lacks any sort of mouth feel, other then a watery feeling. I like my vodka to still have a little grainy taste, and the All Bran suits this purpose better.
Perhaps though this would be a better choice for infusions, as its very neutral.

Well as im am trying to say it is me first ever spirit brew so if it works out I will add a bourbon essence,then a couple more runs and then I think I would like to try the UJSM recipe.
Gotta see how the 18 gallon still goes with 70 litres or so of wash.
I have a 1 thousand litre tank for cooling me pot so will se what happens!!
Its been bubbling merrily since sunday , the nights are cold my 50 litre wash has a heater pad and blanket in me shed stays at 30 Celsius.me belt on me 25 litre is 38 Celsius with blanket .
What is the ideal fermenting temperature I wonder?
And any ideas where best to buy corn from ,for when I get adventure's??

I put down a 25l wposw last Thursday, was going great guns. my pH at the start was pretty close to 6.8. I. checked pH 3 days later and it was down to 2.5. at that time the airlick was still gurgling quite nicely. I added some sodium carbonate to bring the pH up to around 4.5 and since then there has been no bubbling. was this a dumbarse thing to do? and have I stuffed the batch?
Carbon dioxide bubbling through the wash would naturally make it acidic wouldn't it? :crying-blue:

What is your gravity reading and what has your temp been?

I would add a bit more DAP if it isn't finished. If you used bakers yeast And the temp was up it might be about done :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Is your pH meter calibrated?
If it was giving you a false reading, you may not have needed to do anything to it ;-)

30kg of sugar
8 tsp citric acid = approx 40g
8 tsp DAP = approx 40g
8 tsp gypsum = approx 32g
1 tsp epsom salts = approx 5g
4 cups of bakers yeast = approx 550g

Fill to 190L

the Di-ammonium phosphate provides nitrogen for the yeast if im not mistaken. but been wrong before

99% of all home brew shops carry DAP.So any beer making store should or has the means to order it for you.I believe it provides nitrogen for the yeast.I could be wrong it would not be the first time.
