how much water? does the malt add to the already 5kg of sugar? may need another 500ml or so of water. i havent used malt so i dont know but if it is going to boost the sugar content then maybe boost water if its just at 25L line

Try puting a hose on the end of your airlock and out the window or something. Its how i ferment inside with no smell :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I am keen to know more about this. I am still in the process of getting my shiny new man-cave built so I am "borrowing" my neighbours man-cave to store them in. Does this method get rid of all the smell?

I personally like the smell of my 'brew room'.
The Mrs obviously disagrees :violence-smack:
But what does she know!!lol. Loving the smell of my WBAB fermenting super slow at 22•. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Was hoping to strip it over the next two days but it's only down to 1.000 so will have to be patient and wait a few days longer !!

My first WBAB has finished fermenting.
SG - 1.080
FG - 0.994
ABV - 11%
So the question is about running the wash...
image.jpg

A lot of the bran is floating on the surface ... Should I skim it off? Also how clear does the wash need to be. It's been sat for about a day since finishing and there is a decent bed of sediment at the bottom. Does it need to be racked?

Just syphon off the top leaving the sediment behind. I never worry too much about stuff getting in the still.

Thanks Tipsy...
More concerned about the bran on the surface.. As long as that won't matter I'll run it today and get my 2nd gen going :)

Just going for vodka with the first gen mate. I don't think I would get a decent whiskey out of this still (even in pot mode) without a power controller. Plan to buy one next pay :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Stripped 75L of my first WBAB over the last two days.
Here's how today's went
image.jpg

Pretty happy with the yield from 11% wash.
So I've ended up with 15L of low wines at about 46%
image.jpg

Got my 2nd generation of WBAB going as well. I added 5L backset, 5kg sugar and 8 crushed weetbix to each fermenter.
wI'll be doing a spirit run on Tuesday and chucking in 4L of feints from a previous run. Should end up running about 25L of 40% wines so interested to see how Keggo copes

Nice. im attempting to see if i can hold full reflux on a single 10% run with 1.5m of packing. to much speed for low wines atm for me.

Ive got a couple of fermenters of this going now. I only had Vita Brits in the cupboard so thats what went in the mix. Has anyone tried both types (Vita brits/Weetbix), and noticed any difference in the final result?

Cheers Phil

So I have been doing a somewhat bastardised version of this wash for a while. While waiting for my single malts to age I needed a quick ageing whisky with out resorting to HBS. So recipe as follows:
20 crushed weetbix
4kg Sugar
1.25kg lightmalt extract
top up to 25L
pitch Malt Whisky Yeast Starter at 30'
Run through 3 perforated plates
Age on med toast american oak

Final product after 1 month=good
3 months= very good
Subsequent gens=even better

Latest batch upto gen 7

makes a fine drop IMHO

Thans to the original Creator ^:)^

Just stripped my second 75l gen of this and started off the 3rd. Added 36 weetbix, 15kg sugar, 1.5tsp Epsom, citric and dap and its fizzing away real good.
Only planning to make neutral with this run.
Next gen I am gunna try and use my still in purely pot mode and see if I can make something that I can call whisky/bourbon without using essence.
The last lot of neutral I made with this was not as neutral as I wanted (still limitations) but it was really bloody nice and for me this recipe is far better than TPW.
