Just once for what I put aside for the whiskey at a fast open tap drip rate. Then ran everything second distill on closed tap slow drip rate to get a Vodka. But unlike the Tomato paste wash, this has a real sweet flavor. Real nice with Dry ginger ale, soda or tonic. Coke is to sweet form me.

Drink the Whisky straight on the rocks.

this is my aim eventually. a whiskey i can drink on its own with some ice and maybe a dash of water. i only say a dash of water after watching a distillery doco and they mentioned 40% numbs senses on the tongue and you cant taste it properly so you need to get it closer to 30%. might have been a whiskey or bourbon doco on youtube.

I will put 10kg sugar in it next time as the SG was 1090 with 12kgs sugar

after a week the SG was 1020 with alco rading 0%

after 2 weeks it was 980 with alco reading 6%

I did not bother with crushing the all-bran, just the weetbix with my hands and after 2 weeks there was stuff all sign of the all-bran on top of the fermenter and what there was were in pieces; so I suggest not to bother crushing the all-bran, it takes up drinking time :obscene-drinkingchug:

Alcometer won't work in your wash mate only once it's been through the still.

Stick to your hydrometer for the wash :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi guys,
With regard to the Easy Weetbix/All Bran Recipe: What is the purpose of the Epsom Salts? Is there a suitable substitute for Epsom Salts? (I don't have any atm) I'm really enjoying the forum with all the hints and tips from you guys.
Cheers nambuat

10kg sugar (I used 12kgs this wash, it gave an SG of 1090)

40 weetbix

8 cups All Bran

100g bread yeast

2 teaspoons epsom salts

1.5 teaspoons citric acid

water to the 60lt mark

I left this for 2 weeks in the fermenter until the SG reached 990, I then removed the heat & left it for 4 days to settle, then I got my long spoon & moved the junk from around the tap & left it for another 3 days to clear. I then took 4 days to do the stripping run (as I have an air still) & only took one day to do the spirit run

stripping run

use the boil enhancers & a capful of conditioner or a drop of olive oil

I got 1200ml when I did the stripping run from 4lts & the alcohol is ~40% ABV

spirit run

no need for boil enhancers or conditioner or olive oil in the spirit run

place 6 x 600ml bottles in the distiller & fill to the full mark with water, this gives ~30%

turn on the distiller & wait an hour

the first 50ml is foreshots, throw away

the next 250ml keep for heads run

collect 1500mls, that is a mixture of hearts & some tails, it will be ~70% ABV

the next 100ml the ABV was 40%, but the smell was going off, so I did not include it

I collected less in the stripping run than when I used TPW, but, I collected more in the spirit run than when I used TPW; and I don’t have to carbon filter this :) so this wash has won me; any wash is better than Turdbo. mix this 50- 50 with water for 40% ABV

Finally got around to a neutral spirit run on some WBAB low wines I ran at the end of last year. Had about 22 litres @ 62% so ran it in two parts watered down to 40% through the MacBoka with an extra 300mm of packing and the T500 boiler switched down to 1200W once it came up to temp. Pulled 95% at a little over 1.5 litres per hour on both runs. Not only does this make a great whisky but I have to say I prefer this over TPW for neutral too. Has a much better mouth feel than TPW and even though it is neutral it has the slightest hint of grain flavour (although I could be imagining that since I know what it was made with!)

Cheers,
Prof. Green

yea i agree. on single run its a vodkarish whisky which isnt bad. double runs are obviously better

So I'm planning to throw a batch of WBAB on this weekend. If I scale the original recipe up by 19% to suit a 25L wash I get the following measurements:

3.5 cups of weet bix (~14 weet bix)
3.5 cups of all bran
90g yeast
water up to 25L

going off these ratios it would also give me 6kg of sugar, but that seems like a lot compared to other 25L washes I have done so far? Should I just up-size everything else and leave the 5kg of sugar?

Just threw a 25L batch on this morning. If the final spirit tastes half as good as the fresh wash smells I'm sold! Now I have a craving for breakfast...
