For the barely malt i used a "pilsner malt" in macwhiskey and bwko gueesing it would be fine in this also. most places that sell grain will have it and will mill it as you want. I bought from www.5stardistilling.com.au brewery but theres lots of options online...

I was wondering if one could use this: http://store.coopers.com.au/thomas-coop ... 1-5kg.html
The way I see it, the barley is there to provide sugars? If Im right, this can has already been converted and "should" work just as well.
I may be wrong and going completely off track, let me know. If I am wrong the only local place to get the grain is a place run by a complete cock that told me to give up making beer because I cant ferment in a controlled environment :angry-banghead: I swore I would never go in there again.

Corn is the base grain in this recipe the barley malt adds some flavour but is mainly used for the enzymes to convert the starch in the corn to sugar. The light malt extract "lme" will give the right flavour, and you should be able to find a converter online to convert from grain to extract, to give you the right amount to use.
Then buy the enzymes to do the conversion of the
corn i believe the brendans all grain burboun thread has the enzymes listed you will need. Heat the corn to 85 and hold it there until it thickens to a porridge reduce temp to 65 add enzymes and hold it there untill the "porridge" turns back real thin like water. Put a small sample, few mls, of the mash in a container and add some iodine, just couple drops,( i use betadine liquid the stuff you put on cuts) if it doesnt change colour your all good to cool and add yeast if it turns dark purple there is still starch and it needs more time with the enzymes.

Heaps of places online that will post fresh grain, freight is a bit of a killer but worth it grain makes great hooch :music-deathmetal:

Hey all,
I am having a hard time tracking down ground Barley malt, are there other names for it as well? Trying to buy around the 10kj mark but happy with any at this stage.

Online or in the Sunshine Coast region

Thanks

Craftbrewer in Bris will send it to you, they will probably even crush it too if you call and ask them to.

Here's a link to help with your search.
