I just wanted to thank-you for your post ^:)^

I started buying my ingredients today for your shine while I'm in limbo for some parts for my twin column VM still project (arriving mid next week now).
The cracked corn was easy enough, rye in that quantity will be interesting as I've never looked before. As for the ground barley malt we have 9 legal distilleries down here and I know they have no shortage of it so it's clearly available, just need to find the source.

So...my next job will be to get me a 200L fermenter! Anyone got any suggestions for something cheap? I'm in Tassie, a 200L HDPE drum+lid would be ideal if I knew where to source one.

Cheers,

Mech.

EDIT: it turns out I have 2 x 200L HDPE drums...I was using them as legs for a bench!
I'll just need to make some mods as they only have the 2 x openings at the top.

Mec take you a 5 gal bucket and cut it down to where the lip is (around 8 inches from top). Cut a hole in your drum and slide bucket down in it and use some food grade silicone to hold it down and then 4 stainless bolts if your bucket allows for it.

This is seriously my goto recipe for bourbon ,,,, ive tried , uj, Mtm moon, even different grain bills for different distilleries,,,,, I put forward that EVERYONE needs to make this as a bourbon staple.... you can make EG's southern comfort, add JD smokin pellets to make a JD style, or you can leave it plain ,,,,, this stuff is AWESOME

Im lookin at doin a 100l sweet mash and then a 200l sour mash as per mountain moonshines recipie

But i can get flaked corn from my loacl hbs will this do

The flaked corn comes in a 11.3kg bag for $57.50 so it would be cheaper to buy the 11.3kg bag

Prices per kg 50l ferment

$7 flaked corn 6kg $42
$5 rye 3kg $15
$4.5 distillin grain 2kg $9
Total $66
With 11.kg bag corn total $81.50

100l ferment 200l ferment
11.3kg $57.50 22.6kg $115
6kg $30 11kg $55
3kg $13.50 6kg $27
Total $101 $197

Try a feed store Ben those prices are ridiculous for flaked/cracked corn/maize or whatever they want to call it ;-)

cracked corn 25kg shouldnt be more than about $1 a kg from the feed joints, but it's unlikely you'll find specialty malts and corn in the same places ;-)
