Putting this mash down now as per mtn moonshines recipie and steeping process smells fantastic i put the barley in 30min then add some safwhiskey yeast

Just sift them out mate then they will be really unhappy, they are a pain in the ass.

Well im 4 hrs into my mash first hr was me turnin my rye into meal i put the corn and rye meal in the boiling water at 5.20
at 7.20 i took some mash out mixed in .5 a kg of barley mixed that back into the mash and added the rest of the barley to the top 8.00 ichecked on it i could here the crackin so i mixed from the bottom up the mash is still quite warm i shall let it sit for a bit and mix some more

Water topped up to the 100l mark and safwhisky rehydrated and added to some mash

Yeasty mash added to fermenter

Cant really tell by the pic but plenty of bubbles i stuck my hydrometer in and it only read 1020 should it be more i did add a bit extra water because i wont be removin the grain bed this would affect my sg but how much

Looks awesome will get some of this run before christmas for sure. Couple of questions traditionally is this drunk straight off the still no oaking or aging ? i know zip except what I have seen on moonshiners about shine.. is all moonshine whiskey/bourbun or is there traditional old time from the woods rum recipes as well ?
