It's CO2 escaping from the wash, if it's reading 990 it is done :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If I were to add a kilo of sugar and a couple of extra satchets of yeast to this mix what might happen ?

Just thinking of trying to boost the final yeild a bit :eusa-think:

TPW is more about quality than quantity. The amounts specified here is what others have found to be the best volumes for a quality product. Adding more sugar and more yeast can create a bad tasting wash. The yeast work well for both volume of liquid vs. Volume of sugar. Adding more sugar and yeast, but not increasing the overall volume of wash can make the yeast stressed and shit through your product.

Ive started with low sugar in washes and added in in later as i didnt have enough at the time and it was fine, fermented out but ive always tried to stay at 1kg per 5L of water and no more

Have just put down my first TPW, and will never ever go back to turbos, rather have quality rather than quantity.

A little issue. My last few of these have left a 1/2 inch thick layer of brains on top of the wash. Red chunky shit. I am using Leggos.

After how long Bushy ?

Ive done 3 batches of TPW and it finishes off with very few CO2 bubbles on top , very clean .

Had the chance last night to taste TPW product alonside some Turbo stuff . Both aged on the same type of Bourb chips for 2 weeks . jesus , it doesnt matter how often you read about the difference in quality you cant appreciate (well I cant anyway) it till you have a sip of each .

It cooks down to 990 but I gotta sieve all this shit off the top before I pump it to the boiler. Like I said, tomato brains.

that doesnt look good at all, i cant offer anything , maybe someone else has a suggestion . The only thing I can see is I use the small 80g plastic tubs , not that that should make a difference .

Are you sure that cat hasn't shit in your wash bushy?? :laughing-rolling:
What yeast are you using and method of pitching?
I used to get a scum like that on the top when I poured dry lowans into the wash, but it always cleared away
What's the texture like? Foamy or chunky?

Chunky. EC1118. Two of those jars for a 50litre wash. I left a wash for about six months and it was still there. Scooped it off and ran it to good effect. Might be the yeast but I can't see why.

G'Day Bushy,
in all the TPW I've run, I've never had a thick crust like that... a crust will form, I've found, but it goes away during the fermentation and settles out at the bottom after about a week and a half. I find mine goes from milky pink to clearish pink to a yellowy clear the longer I leave it.
I use the cheapest tomato paste on the shelf, but have used Pizza tomato topping with herbs and such (because my maths wasn't that good at the time and I ran out of paste) and that reacted the same as all the others. I use good old bakers yeast from Coles....

At a guess, your tomato paste may, in conjunction with the EC1118 do things a little differently giving you that 'smashed brains' look, but if the end result is still good, you have no problem, IMO.

Try same paste and different yeast, or different paste and same yeast... I'd save the EC1118 for something more like making one of the Whiskies...

Threw together my first batch of TPW yesterday. It is currently sitting in an esky of warm water being regulated at 30 degrees Celsius with an aquarium heater :handgestures-thumbupleft:

After reading all the hype I am extremely keen to see the results for myself!
