Are you using a packed section as well as 4 plates? The packed section will help greatly if you want a neutral. How fast were you running? 85% seems a little low or was that just a strip run? I would dilute that a bit further, down to 40% if you are going to run it again just to be safe. And yes it smells so much better than turbo, it makes you wonder how we used to drink it and thought it was ok 8-} :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Sounds like you have the good stuff separated out there :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just wondering why you have gone for 6.25kg of dex instead of 5 kg of sugar as per the tried and proven ?

Not a criticism just curious as you have gotten the same yeild near enough as I get from the 5 of sugar .

I tried 6kg of sugar to try and get better yield once, I got the same as doing 5kg.

Hi Mate ,
5kg of table sugar equals 6.25kg of dextrose , reason i used it was i had it , we do not use table sugar in our house we use raw sugar. :happy-partydance:

Hi ,
Forgot to tell you when you use dextrose over table sugar you need to use approximately 12.5% per kilo as it is super refined over table sugar so it its same as a 5kg table sugar wash

Hey, would an SG reading of 0.900 be finished? it's been fermenting since saturday 5th aug. I tested the SG yesterday and it was the same. I'm wondering if its ready now as I usually leave it for 2 weeks, but the bubbling has stopped earlier than the other times.

It will be fine mate, I use to do this all the time when I was making TPW, never had any of them fail on me.

Just finally got around to diluting the first TPW that I ran through about a month ago. Didnt really do cuts this time around other than keeping the first 500mls out and stopping a bit earlier (a drip every second or two) left the glass jar open the whole time. Diluted it down to 43%, not intentional, was aiming for 40%. Got a total of 6l. Was getting 9l from the turbo wash yeast.

Cant compare the two final products, zero smells, couldnt pick it from pure water. And tastes exactly like a expensive bottle of vodka.

Thanks for the advice and recipe.

Hi All

I have made my first TP wash and want to know when it is ready to put through the still (I am very new to this sorry about the newbie question). It has read 990 on the hydrometer for the last two days, there are bugger all bubbles on the surface and maybe a bubble will appear every 10 - 20 seconds. I am using an Airstill (don't bag me I have water and space issues best I can have under the circumstances), just wondering how long I should let it settle before doing my stripping run. Should I empty the fermenter from the tap or siphon from the top?

It wont go below 990, so you are done.

Personally, let it settle as long as you can manage. But 2 to 3 days is enough.

I have a fitting on the back of the tap inside the drum that is a short tube with a slit in it. I have this at the top. I take out a litre of cloudy stuff and discard then it runs clear and I collect it. I usually leave it to clear for a week mainly because I distill on weekends.

Same same!

I find it even tastes better once having left it for that additional time!
