The wash is in, started Friday, the wash started at 1.058 and is just about 1.000 now, the start seemed a bit low, not sure why.

I was on ebay and did see some DAP 1kg for $28, price looked ok but not sure about the quality.

Here is my start and finish readings, 4 days.

Looks pretty close to me, aiming for 0.990 if it's stopped then have a crack at a run and get another wash fermenting.

Only putting 4L in the air still as a test so will strip that to 30% tgen try and get some cuts, not clearing the first run so will be a day or so till i run more of it, will be interedting the taste difference between the two.

If you're just stripping, don't bother tasting it.

Running low on vodka so I'm gonna give this method a run. See if it helps with my acid reflux compared to the TPW.

Picked up a few kilo of wheat bran from my local pet supply for a few bucks and all I could get were wine making enzymes (surely is the same).

These are the only multivitamins I have... Any good for this? Or I have some elevit pregnancy multis as well.


Picked up this sweet 35L barrel from the big green shed today for 24bucks. Gonna see how my FFV goes in this.

No not same thing. What exactly have you got? Wine nutrient will work. (It contains dap along with other stuff). Wine enzyme(pectinase) wont. It is for breaking down pectin, the stuff that is the structure of fruit :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks bluc... It's a nutrient. Has dap in it so should be ok. Are those multivitamin tablets ok to use do ya think?

Would worry about the Vit C. That’s as or if acid and often is used in place of citric acid...

While the key vitamins you want are the B series, a multivitamin will also provide Beneficial amounts of a whole range of others and trace minerals as well. The fizzy C ones alone add very little. Those shown in the photos Look like multis
will be ok but are an expensive way to go. Any supermarket type for men or women is fine , the pill type are best and easily crushable

Re nutrient. If DAP is not readily available a high nitrogen garden fert will also work. Another is to take bakers yeast even old out of date stuff, and boil it for a few minutes in water About 3 teaspoons for 25 litres Ferment

So I let my fast ferment sit for nearly 2 weeks and it was all finished bubbling away. Ran it through my reflux tonight, let it full reflux for about 20mins and then dialed it out. Tossed the first 400ml and what it was producing at that stage smelled amazing.

Let it go for a fair while and it started going to a drip really early. Around the 900ml mark.

It looked like it was all done at 1.5L.

What's the usual total output from a 25L wash?

Depends on what your wash's starting abv is - with a 95% output the 25l will give you 2.5l with a 10% wash, 2l with 8% etc. This was with your t500 ?

This is why stripping with a pot first is a good thing, enough strip runs and then a good solid 40% charge that will let you achieve good cuts

I bought a crude male threaded pipe with a ferrule on it for something like 5 bucks which is in the post.

But I may have went to the plumbers shop yesterday and picked up 2m of 2" and I stretched out my 1/4" and looks like I have about 5m there. Just need a T piece and I think I may have a CCVM build???

Maybe I didn't let it sit long enough. I'm still happy with the amount I got out of the wash because it's a much more pleasant vodka than the TPW vodka.

I actually don't know how to check starting and finish. My hydrometer glass sticky thing doesn't have some of the numbers you guys mention. It just says stuff on it like beer and wine and shit.. Maybe I need a better one

Not going to be super accurate for you, but this will give you ball park to cross reference, I wouldnt stress it too much, It moving over time and getting to the finish line are the important parts after all. If you want to keep good records an upgrade might be in order, look for one with really long scale markings - easier to read

today just racked off 2 more 23L batches of FFV, to add to the previous 2 batches held in DG HDPE cubes.
so a big stripping day coming up with 92L of wash to run in a 35l boiler (maybe 2 days)
last batches took about 5 days from go to whoa.
found a good trick to expel air from cube (probably been done before)
it was hard to get rid of air in the cube handle while trying to squeeze the cube with only 2 arms.
so i put a large quick grip on the cube, tilted the cube to get the air out of the handle, removed lid and slowly moved the cube to horizontal while squeezing the cube with the quick grips simultaneously.
any thoughts on doing 3 x 30l runs in a 35l boiler instead of 4 x 23l runs on a stripping run in pot still mode?
i will be using a 2" CM still with no packing and only using the PC.
i'm pretty sure the PC can handle anything i can throw at it (2" 450mm 8-pipe shotgun)
i would consider 30l to be overloaded on a spirit run with reflux, but a stripping run?

In general it's the other way around, you are more likely to experience a puke (boil over) when doing a stripping run due to the presence of CO2 and particulates, and the fact you are running it flat out. Of course I am saying that without being familiar with your particular equipment, but I doubt it would be any different. Doing a spirit run with 5L of head room seems perfectly reasonable to me.
