Yeah they will get sleepy, also just because ambient is going down that cold doesn't mean a well insulated wash is going to ;-)

I've read were yeast can be frozen....but never tried it. I buy fresh yeast from the bakers in the village sometimes for my washes....I always have some left over, will give it a try next time. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Is that dry yeast or washed yeast? Just about to try my hand at washing yeast for my next Rum wash, but thats probably another couple of weeks away ... so being able to store it for a while would come in handy!

Worried that the freezing process will lyse the cell walls of the yeast!?!?

I've got Lowans in freezer for a few years now and it's still working, just been using for baking, give it a chance to wakeup

Freezing wet yeast may bust cell walls

Freezing wet yeast will kill the majority of it if not all, unless you store it in glycerin.

People are suggesting this wash be rung on 3 plates and so on otherwise there might be some flavour left.

How would this was go on a T500 and Pot still?

i have run it on a t500, IMHO it is a finer/cleaner drop than TPW...no more tpw for me... super slow on the Pot may work ok (havent tried it) but would think some flav may carry over.I try to have zero carry over with neutral so it can mix up well.

Also put down a 60lit a few days ago...NO KALE LEFT...substituted about a kg of home grown cherries instead. Pureed in food processor same as kale, bubbling its ass off, lovely aroma, will run it thru the pot to see what happens. I figured, Tom Paste is a fruit - it works, Kale is a Veg - it works, got some cherries - should work too.

I was reading the paper (west Australian) which is unusual for me but I was on a plane and bored and they said watercress is the top 'superfood'. Even higher than kale in terms of nutrients. Less taste as well.
I dont do a lot of neutral washes (none nowadays) as my bourbon feints provide more than enough vodka ingredients.
Food for thought.

Warra...spot on NOT kale wash, but i guess what i was implying, there is a heap of stuff we can try and it pretty well works out well. Who would have thought Kale in the first place.
I did follow the recipe to the letter though (except) for the MAIN ingredient...ha ha...hoping it will pot still out with a bit of flav.
Watercress, well i dont think i can grow it at home as this is where i source all my main yeast neuts...

I have just finished a kale wash vodka through my pot still.

I stuck with the ratios on the first page, but added 4kg of roasted wheat for flavor.

After a stripping run, a spirit run, and a polishing run with harsh harsh cuts (70% down to 60%) I was left with a flavorful spirit.. Too much flavor. After running through a charcoal filter 4 times, the resulting vodka is amazing! Crazy smooth, with a hint of grainy flavor, and a thick mouthfeel.

Agreed that makes it not a kale wash, but on the same principle, I put down a wombok wash with these quantities. Haven't done the spirit run yet, but the strip sure tasted pretty clean. Might need to make a thread for 'salad' neutral, and have people compare the flavour (or lack thereof) & fermentation intensity of various salad greens. :-B
