Kraken is a bit too wild in flavour for myself. I prefer the Captain Morgan "black spiced spirit drink" made with carribean rum. It's a dangerous bit of tipple though, can drink it straight too easy.

I think for the first try I'll add it to the wash...we do love spiced rum, when the thumper is finished I want to try adding molasses in the thumper, try to get the flavour to carry over.

If you want a good strong flavoured rum try a straight molasses was 6l per 25-30l wash with bakers yeast :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I've run my latest GS wash today and when it had finished I started another one....but this time I've followed the rum recipe on here. I run 4 lts of stillage into a bucket, added more GS..when I did a ph test I was surprised to find it was over 5. I've heard stories about the very low ph you can find yourself with if your not careful, when using stillage/backset.

Then for the next wash I'm going to set it up and when it's cool, bang it on top of the old yeast....just to see what it turns out like.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You guys ever thought of making your own golden syrup to try for this recipe? Gotta be cheaper than the bought stuff especially in oz. Just sugar, water and lemons in the recipe.
I dislike rum but thought you guys might find it a useful idea.

Just putting it out there... Isis mill will sell 1000L of golden syrup for about $650. Works out way cheaper than making it but would require a few people willing to take a big amount.

To
1 :6 : 12
Lemon juice : sugar : water

Is the general ratio i have found online.
Also a LOT of people "cant" get it...?
So 6kg of sugar, 12L water with about half a little container of citric acid.
Simmer for 1hr or so and bam golden syrup.

Almost like an AG sugar head so to speak.

6kg in 12l is not a very thick syrup..sounds more like invert sugar. This is the recipe I am going to to give me 6kg total sugar then going to mix 50/50 with raw sugar.

2. Directions
3. Pour 1kg sugar and 250ml water into a large saucepan. On medium heat, twirl the pot around and caramelise the sugar until a dark golden colour.
4. Add 3l boiling water, another 5kg sugar and 5 lemon slices.
5. On low heat boil for 45 minutes until thick (stir it occasionally if you must or leave it alone to do its own thing).
6. Cool and pour into sterilised jars or bottles discarding the lemon slices. Label and store in a cool place.
7. Tip.
8. The syrup when hot will always look watery but will thicken when cooled.
