Nice one bluc, will have to crack my feed molasses rum shortly, it has done the same time as yours with the same wood ratio. Aired it this morning and it was smelling awesome, so might be time to draw a sample.

HNY mate.

HNY fellow rum runners :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Have had some McRum sitting on 2 parts medium French, 1 part used (full bourbon char) 'merican oak for nearly three months now, gave it a test the other night and found it absolutely delicious with Coke, bringing out really rich caramel & vanilla flavours, but acrid & harsh neat over ice. Was tested at 50+% though, but I like it strong :obscene-birdiedoublered:
Anyhow, soaked some spice mix in a litre & a bit for a day and a half and OHMYFUCKINGOD this is so tasty that Coke makes it worse. :scared-eek:
I'd like to compare to the golden syrup rum of Bluc, it smells like the most fantastic, fruity Christmas cake you have ever had, and really softened the harsh alcohol smell the rum had the other day. I made the kids smell it & they thought it was really nice. My mate smelled it 48 hours ago & nearly fainted lol.

My spice mix contained:
Orange peel (4x5"strips)
Fresh ginger (4 slices)
2 allspice berries
5 peppercorns
3 cloves
Small piece cinnamon bark
Vanilla pod, split
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Small piece star anise
Few drops almond essence

Per 2 litres Oaked rum

I have strong discussions with mates about this! Some recon they can't drink Whisky/rum/etc straight unless its on ice ...

Every time I use ice I find it removes the flavours I want to taste and leaves a harsh taste as you've described here!

Sir Richard Patterson has the best way to describe how to do it right! Its funny and ever since following his advice, its opened my eyes to a who other world of flavour!! Love his work!

this is the shortest of his vids, there are other longer ones but they all end up saying the same thing...

I now drink all my rum/Whisky neat with a splash of cold water and LOVE IT. Defs NO Coke or other mixers!

Ha, that is funny. And lots of good points. Not sure about the 30% bizzo though, I may have to run some tests there. My mixers WITH Coke are probably 30% :laughing-rolling:
I'm more like Sir Les Patterson :obscene-drinkingdrunk:
