Turbo done in 24 hours

Hi all
I've been doing TPW washes but had a turbo yeast so thought I'd put it down. 6 kilos sugar. It went bolistic to the point that water was coming out the airlock bubbling like I'd never seen. The thing is in 24 hours not much more it's done and even clearing.. checked with hydrometer and it's done. Not sure whether it's any good or throw it and put down TPW. Anyone else had these turbos go so quick?

Be good for a sacrificial cleaning run but if you really want to find out how shit turbo brew is then go ahead and run it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If you want to do turbo yeast adding urea may be cheaper can buy 4 kg for $12 at hardware that is what was used before they said it would give you cancer but now i think they say that was bullshit .Not sure if legal again in Australia.

I friggin hope the cancer thing was bulls**t. I excrete copious amounts of that stuff every morning not long after I wake up! :scared-eek:
Btw: Turbos do finish that quick and could be worth a crack for you to try but you'll find it probably will have a sort of metallic chemically taste. Careful cuts and carbon filtering can fix that.

WOW it's hard to believe that quick, not sure if this is a silly question but could some store bought alcohol been make with turbo yeasts :think:

Yeah similar process with alot of white spirit. There's been alot of chat about smaller distilleries and a few bigger once reprocessing fuel alcohol for consumption. I believe bacardi is made from milk... There's alot of dodgy practice in the commercial world hence why we all make our own!

They make Bacardi from molasses. Some cheap vodka/flavoured vodka style is made from milk, more specifically whey. Think UDL cans etc. I believe it is also added to some cheap blended whiskys.

Bicardi rum is done in 10 or so hours. Some do it quick

the whole fermentation process is just that... a process.
The right ingredients and conditions produce the right end result (usually). I cant, for the hell of me see how anyone who wants to produce a DECENT drink can even contemplate, let alone revel in how wonderfully fast their Turbo finished. Yeast is a living organism and prefers certain conditions to do what is should, with the least amount of congeners. To ramp this up to a million miles per hour to produce 'something' (dunno what) leaves me a bit bewildered. The stress and pressure placed on the turbo wash concoction surely cant be a good thing. Good shit takes time and effort.

Here here Ken, i completely agree, but this thread is in the area for discussion on using hbs products.

Run it keep some in meantime put down a tpw. Then compare side by side..

This is correct. In NZ Dairy Giant Fonterra has a technique to turn whey (lactose) into ethanol.
Yeast is added to ferment the lactose in two reactions: firstly splitting the lactose into
the two sugars of which it is composed and secondly fermenting these sugars to ethanol.
lactose + H2O → galactose + glucose
galactose + glucose → 4 ethanol + 4CO2
The yeast is then removed from the liquid and the ethanol separated out by distillation to
produce eight different grades of ethanol for a variety of industrial uses.
there about 8 grades including beverage grade much of which is exported.
Many cheaper vodkas internationally use it.
