EziPress Copper Connectors

Postby Shano592 » Mon May 06, 2019 9:35 pm

Has anyone tried these yet?

I have recently started working for a plumbing supply warehouse, and we have all of the these crimp connections, in myriad shapes, sizes and reductions. Without even getting as far as connecting to a still, does anyone have any thoughts on these?

For those new to it, you use a crimping tool to compress the joint, thereby negating the need for solder. I think the warehouse has varied copper connectors, up to 100mm in diameter... possibly larger.

I'm slowly forming a plan to build a sinister pot still.

Great for the cooling side of the still but I wouldn't use them on the vapour path.

Also they are not steam rated.

Some of them have edm seals and -may- be ok, the price multiplier even at trade is insane though

That seal is then there forever, unable to be inspected for deterioration

Then you need access to the $1k ish tool that is needed for the big stuff, then you also have pretty ugly looking connections.

Your in a fantastic position to get bits and learn to solder, don't squander it trying to take short cuts :handgestures-thumbupleft:

My concern (having seen these used in the wild) would be 1. the cost to buy the crimping tool and 2. the stability of the rubber seals used on the fittings.
My understanding is that the rubber used would be a simple nitrile or natural rubber but if you could find out the actual material used then I'm sure the more experienced guys on here could say if it's stable when exposed to alcohol.

All great replies, thanks.

We do have the regular sleeve-type fittings as well; I was just curious about these. They are also differentiated by water, gas and solar types.

And yes, the crimping tools are quite steep in price!

No matter, I have a couple hundred connector types to play with here... I'm sure I can map something out!

So what is the best connector for 1/2 copper? I want to add a worm as im wasting to much water with a shotgun condenser. I need to be able to disconnect the worm for cleaning and such, also I may add a thumper or flavor pots later.
