custom sight glass

Postby rash » Tue May 16, 2017 4:41 pm

Anyone know where i can get custom size sight glasses? Is borosilicate something that glass places stock and can cut? Or is it safe enought to use thick standard glass? I need a couple at 56mm diameter.
Thanks,
Ash

Thick glass isn't the same a borosilicate glass and it will break when heated by your still.
56mm isn't much bigger than 2", and fsd sell 2" sight glasses, could you modify to use them?

I think the 2" ones by fsd are to suit a 2" ferule. So i think they are about 64mm?

Im not sure if my sight glasses are borosilicate, they're out of instrument lenses.

They're about 10mm thick, I tested them by throwing them against the floor, hitting em with a hammer and by putting them in the freezer overnight then straight into boiling water. They passed the test for me.

They're about 54mm OD, from memory. If you get stuck i might be able to send you a couple, I think I've still got a heap.

Thanks for your help guys, and for your offer Zak. 10mm is a bit too thick to work with what i had in mind.. My sg tee sections have a thread on them the same as the nut on a 2" sink waste. So was thinking of using sink waste nuts to sandwich the glass.
I think now that i will be best off grabbing a couple of 2" weld on sight glass kits.
Thanks again,
Ash
