Solar distallation

If an appropriate solar heat source were designed, what would you expect it to be able to do and how would you use it? What type of still would you expect it to drive?

todays the day to play with one in brisbane :ugeek:

i was thinking of this a while back but never progressed anything but was thinking a very basic stripping pot still

use a dark colored 5L demijhon to hold the wash
plug the top with a cork drilled for a 3/8th pipe
run a pipe out the top and over into a collection vessel that is shaded (cooled)

extend the pipe into the bottom of the collection vessel
cover the bottom of the collection bottle covering the input pipe with water or other stripped sprit (thumper style)
collection vessel condensers the spirit thumper style

maybe use a few collection mirrors to increase solar "power"

# issue ? will the pipe cause a vapor lock and stop the coming over to the collection bottle ?

ahh, tis really hot here with lots of heat!!! Heat sink needed.

There are a few options for collecting it, depending on how much heat is needed and length of time you want to use it for and $$$ spent of course.

Night time and cooling vapour would create a vacuum and would dictate that the output pipe would need to be open and above the fluid level, otherwise it would suck the distallate back up.

I have a few ideas gelling in my mind for a system like that that might be effective enough to work well.

You've dug up a ripper there mate. Would you like to drop into the welcome centre and introduce yourself, tell us a bit about what you do or would like to make.
